8 is considered a lucky number in China. This will sell by the shipload to rich Chinese kids. Tons of them here in Sydney, even more in Vancouver, maybe less in UK. Lifestyles of the rich and idle…..

The car looks great, but the grille is massively exaggerated, Everyone does it now, Lexus, Mazda ( see new CX9) and of course Audi who started it. The opposite of the old E31 with the tiny stylised kidney beans and low wedge nose, and the cool low profile pop up lights. Too bad that old 8 was so underwhelming to drive...

Looks good but not great, quite conservative given rivals looks and badge kudos at the price point however it will be a good daily user.

Will it sell ? Decently for a couple of years until newness wears off, at which point it will become just another big coupe with big depreciation ( especially in SE spec ).

So like it's predecessor buy 3 years old or watch out for the inevitable contract hire deals looking to move stagnating stock.

Coupes are always a compromise, not as useable as a saloon and not a true sports car. The only one that's ever bucked the above trends happens to be a Bmw - 3series/4series - but there's always an exception to every rule.

Looks epic especially with a decent v8 or v12, but even with £100k+ price tag, its no Bentley GT rival despite how bmw might try pitch it.

The S63 coupe is the same, whilst having some ludicrous £120k+ sticker price, its available sub £100k with discount even before you haggle to hard...So half the price of a GT or Aston, and they still give you an A or B class when its in for service. It just doesn't wash at this level.

I suspect the 8 series will fall into a similar category.

Please don't sell them with 3 litre Diesel engines. There really is no need for those kind of antics, leave that for the lower series.
Dont worry. They'll put a twin turbo 1.4 in there. And of course the 2.0 diesel. evil

Yada yada yada BMW. When all is said and done this car has got a dreadful rear end. Such a huge overhang spoils the side profile too to my eye.

Imagine this with an 'S'd version of the M760Li motor...

Damn. Are you talking new? I was not aware of such an incentive on those.

The last 6 are 2 litre 4 pots you just get more turbos as you go up the range

Yet I see no mention of a 3-cylinder hybrid. Clearly there has to be great demand for one, with engine sounds playing through the speakers!

Absolutely love that. Other than it appears to have the wheels off a Vauxhall Insigia.

I'm sorry, but you really haven't looked at this in any detail as a prospective purchase (Yes some of us still BUY our cars!)
As has been explained to you, the delta between buying and running a Company funded i8 and (say) my SL500 in and out of London and driving 20k a year would be £15k.
Per annum.

Truthfully, I'd still rather run an SL500 myself, but I applaud BMW for coming up with a unique proposition - there is nothing else like it.

Side on, it looks like a stretched DB11. I like it a lot. Fella down the road has a maroon 8 series. It still looks the absolute biz parked up or on the move.

Lovely, but it would take a 'special' type of BMW fan to have one of these new over a DB11 I suspect...

Will make a lovely used buy though.

I suspect it will only cost about 60% of the DB11 even with a V12 once both are properly speeded .... or at least it will if sterling does not drop below euro parity

Are you suggesting these will only be bought be people who couldn't afford a DB11?

No, he's simply stating they're in a different market. Bi of a daft comment.....It's like saying people only buy a 911 C2 because they can't afford a C2S....it's still a very nice and expensive car!

I like it a lot. I don't even mind the grill - which I think will be a grower.

Interesting to see the price.
