Without wishing to sound rude, funnily enough, that ^^^ is pretty much why i actually like Dan's Videos! I mean, the internet is chock full of sycophantic YouTube car bloggers with flash haircuts, big expensive watches, and questionable fashion sense, banging on about whatever the latest, best thing EVER is. But the vast majority of them, as well as being frankly, awful people, don't have a clue what they are talking about and generally can't drive a greasy stick up a dogs ar*e.

Dan however comes across as genuine, knowledgeable, and a nice bloke imo!

It is impossible to please everyone. Clarkson, at his peak, had 100-350 million viewers / fans, the most popular motoring journalist the world has ever seen, and people still lined up round the block to slag him off for being lightweight, too jokey, whatever.

Dan should keep doing the videos and perfect the art. It is always possible to become better with practice.

It's all just down to personal preference and I'm sure dan didn't want me murdered after reading my comments - he's got thicker skin that that and would have been scrutinised throughout his whole career (plus who am I?)

I watch some of the YouTube guys and find most of them irritating too, however there are a few out there who straddle the line and offer great knowledge with a bit more personality on screen too.. Chris Harris is a good example.

We can't all want to marry him 😜. Cheers.

I wouldn't confuse popularity with quality. JC was and is a talented journalist but 350 million pople didn't watch him because of cars but despite them. As a car journalist JC is very good but not in the same league as , say , David E Davis or Russell Bulgin, Roger Bell or LJK Setright . None of these had universal appeal and that's sort of the point . Jeffery Archer may sell far more books than , for example , Donna Tartt or Martin Amis but the former Lord's prose is .... what ? Abysmal ? Cliched nonsense?

I'm not one for tearful goodbyes, so watch that door on the way out.

I see today that James Drake is leaving too. Edit: In fact today is his last day!

Seems as if Haymarket are getting rid of any PH-centric contributors and relying on the central writing pool they now have, plus freelancers like Dan now is.

Assume there will still be a skeleton crew looking after the forums, then a larger team now looking after the Classifieds, possibly linked with the new 'Used Car' side of Haymarket that is getting £5m investment.

Can't say I have a problem with it, content is content and there has been lots of repetition between PH and Autocar recently in the new articles. Though it's he 'PH' articles that I read the most, hoping Dan can continue those.[url]

Popularity is not exactly a measure of talent from a purely motoring journalism POV.

I think he is a lout but more crucially I also think he is a terrible car journo with very little automotive knowledge/understanding.

I must be honest, I wasn't even aware PH had an editor, such was the poor and directionless editorial decisions that have(n't) been made over the years (something I've moaned about in the forums for ages).

I didn't mind Dan's work however, it had the jokey slightly condescending take on modern motoring "journalism" that PH should I feel retain, especially in this daily mail-esque click bate fake news crap internet world we exist in.

(Apart from the few click bate articles you did write wink )

I will miss the factually incorrect pieces though Dan, and especially those great articles that waxed lyrical about a particular feature on a car and the completely forgot to include a picture of whichever thing it was you dedicated three whole paragraphs to.

Who's going to write those now?!

Bon Voyage and all the best, as said previously many thanks for the content over the last 6 years thumbup

Good luck Dan with the new ventures and looking forward to the ongoing articles.

We'll see if the new editor will let Dan's "facts" slips through. Hope so! otherwise what will the forums talk about.

A terrifying prospect of a world in which this action could be recognised as a measure of competence!

Good luck freelancing Dan and glad you're sticking around as I've always enjoyed your articles and of course following your MX5 ownership.
