Reading the replies made me chuckle, scratch my head, get momentarily cross and then laugh out loud. PH forums are great!

I'm a car driver and occasional cyclist. After being cut up by a car driver while cycling today I think I should wear a sign on my back saying "I'm a car driver too. Give me a break."

Any better ideas?
Yep - shout loads of abuse, hit their car for being too close and when they stop to kick the st out of you scream camera and point to your head !!!

Best bet is to emigrate I think.

Britain is full of cyclist-hating drivers that cant stand sharing the roads with any other road users. As time passes the aggression just becomes more and more blatant. I doubt it'll be much longer before drivers start deliberately running down cyclists, as has been in the papers a couple of times recently.

Forget about your legal rights to use the road, there are no traffic police left to enforce the law.
Excellent advice. Angry cyclists: please take note.

They are not cutting you up because YOU are a cyclist, other than that they think there is little come back, it is because THEY are an ahole.
What?

There is only comeback when a driver does something wrong thanks to these little things called number plates which cyclists do not have to use.

It's funny. Cyclists:

No VED.
No MOT
No license
According to them, don't even need to follow safety guidelines with regard to helmets.
Often skip red lights.
Always use dashcams and convieniently edit out any part which incriminates them.

Always blame the driver for any wrong doing. biggrin

Complain in multiple threads about car drivers not giving them room but openly admit to riding down the inside of a stream of parked vehicles leaving no room.

When there is no room they illegally use the pavement.

BUT...

always the car drivers fault.

So what you are saying is, regardless of the fact you have a vehicle capable of using the roads without causing obstruction, you chose the obstructing causing method instead?

I'd cut you up more if I am honest.
What, pray tell, is this vehicle that is capable of using the roads without causing obstruction? I can only think it must be a Rolls Royce Wraith or Silver Ghost. I'm sure that a lot of people will spend a long time stuck in bank holiday/half term traffic this weekend, but you won't find a cyclist at the front of all the queues - cars are more than capable of snarling the roads up by themselves.
Haven't been caught up behind a 250cc+ motorcycle in a while... smile

As we all know from reading these forums here, there are actually drivers out there who hate cyclists because of their own warped world view. That view is a world where cyclists are virtually a different species, roads are for cars only, those using humbler forms of transport should have the same forms of punitive bureaucracy levied against them or it's just not fair.

A bloke I used to work with used to have angry run-ins with cyclists on his commute, he claimed if he could get away with it he would willingly mow them down dead and I believed him.

I've always thought drivers should be required to ride bikes x amount of miles per year to give them a more rounded view of things and open their minds a bit. Correction in other words.

You'll still have that cretin twoblacklines jump a red light on the wrong side of the road and try and take you out.

I wear my PH cycle shirt in the vague hope it may go in my favour when meeting a moron
How do you know twoblacklines is gay or even wants to go out with him.

So only morons know what a PH cycle shirt looks like? That's not a very nice thing to say about forum members.

Clearly self-awareness is not a defining characteristic of an ahole.

I work with a guy like that, he loves to moan about cyclists, he is a big fat lump who eats nothing but Pot Noodles, I think he hates anyone who does any exercise and isn't morbidly obese but cyclists are his favourite.

The VED thing is a very old argument that even he concedes is null and void, his current car is zero rated so he can't really argue that one, he just hates folk whose shirt buttons aren't under immense strain.

And anyway, we are all cyclists, just some are non practising, every person in this country is entitled to ride a bicycle on the roads.

I do however agree cyclists should stop at red lights and generally obey rules, you aren't Lancely Wigendish on the Tour De France, you are out for a Sunday ride or going to work, stopping will provide extra exercise.

Look it's their road as well, they've every right to ride where they like on the road, in the middle, in a gaggle with friends or all over the place as they avoid the many potholes. It's the car drivers fault that they can't patiently wait for a few miles until they pull off at their local coffee shop for the skinny latte frapachino. biggrin

Here are a few suggestions:

Fall on a sword
Set up a hidden camera in your parents bedroom and review the footage in detail
Boil yourself
Pluck every hair on your body individually using tweezers
Call your your best mate and say you have uncontrollable love for his partner.

I didn't realise it was a binary choice laugh

I can list right now 5 cars (all fast!) Id buy if I won Millions of Pounds.
I can also list 3 bikes I'd buy as well.

One of those cars would be an RS6 or C63 Estate so I could take the bike biggrin

I say if there's one subject on here that doesn't get enough forum space, its the "cyclists vs car drivers" debate. I say good on you OP for keeping this thrilling yet under-discussed subject at the forefront of everyone's minds!
