Still confused, if the dealer gave you a V5C/2 number acceptable for input it must be from the V5C from before you owned. If they had registered it to you the number they hold would have become invalid

Just popped online to tax my car now and its been rejected.

A few months ago I removed my private plate, about 2 months later I put it back on (was preparing to sell the car but decided not to in the end).

My tax renewal came with the original plate on it rather than private plate, thought it would be ok. Put the 11 digit number in and it doesn't recognise it. Will have to dig out V5 in morning and do it that way.

The DVLA must have on their records that the vehicle is registered to you and at the correct address, how else would they have sent you a letter to tell you that you're driving an untaxed/unSORN vehicle?

For whatever reason you have not got the logbook back nor a tax reminder from the DVLA (be it lost in the post, administration error - it doesn't matter). Phone them up, explain the situation, request new logbook, set your own reminder of the tax renewal month, job jobbed.

Mistakes happen. STOP WORRYING!!

I'm furious but at the same time feel so relieved!!!! All DVLA knew was that it was taxed in September in our name but logbook this registered as TRADE! I asked the dealer this Saturday denied it all.

I'm guessing it's because the dealer taxed it using our names she told me that.
