I use my 306 GTi-6 quite often although it's only a nipper at 17 years old!

It's fine for the day to day task if a little too competent. Good turn of pace, handles well, a/c, sunroof, electric windows, power steering, seats five, good loading area with the seats down.... what more do you need in a car?

My 20 year old daily

550hp, comfortable, same reliability and fuel economy as an LS400 (when driven accordingly). Absolutely brilliant cars.

I also have a Corrado VR6

In terms of performance, fuel economy, and practicality (it will seat 4 adults and has a large boot) it is brilliant. But build quality shows it's age on these now, especially when compared to something like a Supra.

The car I'm buying next year will be around 20 years old, an Impreza 2000 Turbo Wagon. Honestly very few cars after 2007 interest me anyway, so the vast majority of cars I'll buy will be considered old by finance fanboys.

Seeing as this thread is now a TOTD and is featured on PH home page with an Impreza picture.... here's mine, 18 years old will do:

Daily for about 2 years but subtle enough in silver not to draw unwanted attention. Cracking fun car and not modified so you can pretty much enjoy most of its full 215bhp.

No thread on PH can be complete without a mk1 MX5, surely? Ours has just turned 23, with 120,000 miles on the clock, and still gets used for occasional commuting and family duties, as well as for spirit-of-horse-and-rider-as-one-style hooning :-)

This was my E36 323i daily for a few years, sold it and ran a 1996 E34 540i for a while after that but it was chronic on fuel!

Running a Mk2 Focus ST at the moment which isn't much better...

993 Porsche - usable quick and very low cost of ownership.

I'd buy one of these as a daily if I did more miles and couldn't use the EVO 9

I'll stick with a 90's Mustang the "The SN-95 Modular Cobra"

Yes its cheesy, its 90's, its properly plastic inside but who cares about that, its RWD, it has 305HP; its fun.

Providing it was in great nick, I'd go for a Volvo V70 (essentially a rebadged 850). I'd like it in a vivid hue of yellow with black wheels and while it doesn't have to be the full beans T-5, I'd still like to have the 2.5 five-pot motor under the square bonnet. If I had the readies I'd upgrade the exhaust too. Those engines can be made to emit a lovely growl.

I drive 96 celica GT4 as my daily drive for past 3 years ok not every day but at least 3 days a week. Great fun quite economical cheap insurance but.......now it needs some underneath body work and waxoil I guess this is the downside of a 21 yrs old car versus salty winter roads !

For the last three years, I have been using this recently turned 20yr old as my daily driver.

I like to try and keep it clean, but it's usually filthy....

It gets used year round too, even in slippery stuff which is a bit yikes

Is this in Sunderland? If so, I've seen it a good few times!

My 20yo daily would have to be a B5 S4

I run both a mark 1 MX5 and a 328 E36 as dailies and they have never left me stranded, though of course they do need maintenance and new parts here and there to keep things reliable.

I will admit to avoiding using them on salty roads though I will at a push, just have to make sure the salt doesn't stay on there for long as a precaution. Better to use a winter snotter. This year it might be a K11 micra, another 20+ year old car and a surprisingly great one with excellent build quality if you can overlook the image.

So, if you had to run a 20 year old car as a daily (so we're talking P/R-registration cars here), what would you pick?
By strange coincidence i have just decided I want an E39 530i as a car for daily duties and business to keep the miles off my fun cars. Just started scanning the classifieds. Not quite 20- years old, but not far off. Classic lines, loads of toys, smooth straight six engine. A hell of a lot of car for £2k - £3k and likely to go up in value if anything.

I also had a 1997 Alfa 156 2.5 V6 as a daily for a couple of years which I loved.

There is something about driving nice old six cylinder cars that makes me happy. Real feel good factor. Maybe it is the fact that you can buy an entire car for the cost of a modern aftermarket exhaust system and set of tyres and that they are rapidly becoming a thing of a past era.

When I had the Alfa I used to always look back at it after I had parked it and wonder how the first owner must have felt aboutn it when they had it brand spanking new back in 97. Bet they were buzzing.
