And on the flipside of selling to the Polish, I bought my Audi off a Polish couple, the guy was a car enthusiast and changed discs and new tyres, though these were only advisories on the MOT.

Seems odd for your first post to be about fluid in an exhaust on a recently bumped thread from June.
So what’s the correct topic for a first post?!? How many posts are required before someone is allowed to add interesting information to an old thread that’s recently been resurrected?

Show me where I said "You can't post until you've had this many posts before" please. I believe I said "Seems odd for your first post to be about fluid in an exhaust on a recently bumped thread from June." Did I not say that?

You did indeed say that, which I took to mean that you thought someone’s first post shouldn’t be on that topic... I guess I thought your post seemed odd, I wasn’t sure what you were getting at, and I wanted to make the point to a first time poster that I thought their post was perfectly appropriate!

It’s curious that all the members who commented on this thread originally being bs were nowhere to be seen as more and more people came along to give similar stories.

Being so cynical and negative is sadly indicative of this place.

My first post too: hope I won't get flamed for it.

Similar experience: selling E60 530d, a bunch of people showed up, distracted me in the boot while the bonnet was up. I took the car for a drive and when we got back there was white smoke coming from the exhaust. They popped the bonnet and looked under the oil filler cap and showed grey emulsified oil under the cap. I told them to get lost and they went off fast as soon as my wife said that she was calling the police.

Oddly I had been warned about the scam beforehand by someone else phoning me to look at the car; but we weren't vigilant enough.

I put my finger in the coolant and it is very greasy (dark, so I can't really tell whether it is oil in the surface).
I suspect that they squirted something up the exhaust which is causing the smoke, and something waterbased in the oil filler to cause the emulsification.

Now I have to get it sorted out before I can sell it. It sounds as if the smoke will just burn off, but I'm worried about how to clean out the coolant and also what to do about the emulsified oil. I guess it needs an oil and filter change and also the coolant flushing out and somehow cleansing to get the oil out of the oil cooler.
Grr,
Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

update: I think they just squirted oil up the exhaust, I drove it *vigorously* for about 100 miles. For a while I thought the turbo was gone as it poured out blue smoke when I booted it, but only after the exhaust had time to get hot. There was actually oil laying in one of the exhaust pipes, but fresh (brown) oil not the black from the dipstick so I was certain it hadn't come down the pipe from the engine.

After a while of driving, the exhaust has stopped smoking. The coolant feels greasy but it is clear and doesn't have oil, and the tiny mist of grey goo under the oil filler cap hasn't recurred (I guess that is possible with a little condensation?).

Strange what people will do for money: 3 of them drove for 1/2 day to pull that one. Now I still have an E60 530D to sell (now with 100 more miles, but I enjoyed most of them once I was sure that the turbo was OK)... I think I'll enjoy its replacement (TT 2.0TFSI) even more

Bizarre. Maybe they pulled the trick on others and each drove off with cheap cars.

Even if my car smoked, no scam and they offered half, id say no and just keep it. Unless its a 300 quid bangers were talking about.

It'll probably be on Autotrader for more than you originally wanted.

What do you do in this situation? Ask the 2nd person to leave?
If I specified ONLY one person and they turned up with another person - then I would remind them that I specified ONLY one person and wave them good bye! On the other hand, if they said "can I bring brother/mechanic/wife ..along?" I would say NOPE. Well maybe wife would be okay.
I'd lose my st if i turned up with a mate to view. How else am I supposed to get to you, magic fking carpet?

Clueless.

Who the hell sells off an RS6 cheap due to a perceived problem during a test drive rather than taking it out of sale and investigating further?!

Well to be fair if someone specified only 'one person' (which might be a bit unreasonable but nevertheless the vendor did stipulate) and you still turned up with a mate then it kind of means either 1. you don't understand English (m*fker) 2. you do understand English but are a pushy wker .. either case I probably wouldn't want to deal with you. I had similar with a property viewing (3 people instead of 1) - they were left outside ranting on the phone!
I'm not a trader. I cannot dominate the stairs. I do not have the time to track you down and hammer sausages into your lawn. If I think you are dodgy for any reason then I simply won't transact - it's not worth the hassle. I'll leave that for car salespersons.

"special offer price if you buy on the spot" - I will assume you are from West London and therefore dodgy. No thanks.

Good point ! Maybe we are supposed to believe that the owner of an RS6 would be stupid enough to fall for this !

Not sure why he's asking us to keep an eye out for it though - he says he knows where the buyers live ? What am I supposed to do if I see it - congratulate the owner on such a bargainous purchase ? Weird.
