This. High powered cars don't create the mindset. I imagine in the 1980s it would have been l easier to lose the back-end of a 325i, with 170bhp, crap (compared to now) narrow tyres and no driver aids, compared to a massively, sticky, tyred 370bhp M2 loaded up with driver aids and traction control.

The price of the car is irrelevant. All thinhs being equal, younger people are more prone to push the limits, as their focus on the likelihood and repercussions of it going wrong is less than for those with a few more years under their belt.

I'm not sure the two examples here are typical of the owner base generally though, are they?

And "back in the day" when i was young, we all drove stty old Minis or MG Metros, SR Novas or if you'd really "made it" an XR2 or XR3i. Few of them were on finance but they were all still thrashed.
I am not saying typical we are just discussing young men treating them like bangers and why is that.
If you look on youtube, you will find a myriad of over-enthusiastic car show exit accidents in anything from a Fiesta to Ferrari. I really don't think it has anything at all to with finance. But for this sort of thing to happen you really only need two ingredients, 1. A desire to show off to the camera phone brigade and 2. Either a momentary or permanent lack judgement/skill.

In many ways I'm glad I'm older now because I always left shows/meets sideways in my 200sx before all the camera phones really took off.

I could just imagine what I'd be like now with everyone filming, I'd definitely cock it up showing off! hehe

I just can't work out how someone so demonstrably on a low income ended up driving a Ferrari?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I66OdjxAALI

Hopefully a high earner will take over soon so that something like that never happens again, eh?

I'm not sure! Quite nasty though.

There are other videos of the incident that show that he/she had just half spun coming out of the previous corner too.

I have piped up on this thread before and reading this reincarnation is truly laughable..

If someone has the ways and the means to treat themselves to a car they like, whether it be PCP/HP or outright purchase, what's the big issue? This 'spotty faced' st drivers that are being spoken about are the moronic minority of young drivers with 'nice' motors.. well, certainly in the NE of Scotland.

I'm 23 (live in the mothership) and have an S3 Saloon on a PCP deal and I drive it like it's any other car I have ever had. I enjoy it, I use it as it's meant to be used but I certainly don't drive it in a way that would make any of you old timers say "look at that little self-entitled prick". I got rid of an M135i that I owned outright before I took that deal out and guess what, it got exactly the same treatment as my current car. They are looked after relentlessly as I take pride in what I have (or what I lease... whatever).

I don't often contribute on here, but the hate that young drivers get really winds me up as we aren't all bad. I see plenty of older gents (and ladies) than me throwing their jags/mercs/RR's around in a much more irresponsible way than me and my mates use our motors.

Anyway, pointless rant as it will literally fall on deaf ears but hey ho. Where is my bulletproof vest?

Loving how this has all descended ifrom the truth of the matter - "two complete dicks who cant drive crash their M2s" to "oh these cars must be on PCP deals which the owners cant really afford because they're probably still living at home and shouldnt be allowed to drive them because its easy come easy go and they dont look after them and crash them" rolleyes

WTF has people on here so obsessed with how other chose to finance their cars?? confused
Amen brother.

It's even worse that "theplayingmantis" appears to be having some serious keyboard orgasms right now and is currently masturbating himself silly, over the fact that he's managed to descend this thread into the usual dark hole of finance rants and how people should or shouldn't live their lives.

I'm not saying that it's always the case, but when the people go on about such matters that really don't concern them, they simply come across as sour, bitter and probably jelous individuals, usually consisting of the older generation talking down on the youth of today.

Things are different now, if you haven't already noticed. Get over it.
hehe

so true. im a sad bstard!

agree this thread has gone way to far though. can't all the finance bashers bugger off the to the car finance dedicated thread and get this back on track about m2 crashes?

does anyone know what happened to the original ned has escaped scot free of his imbecilic behavior?

s3 and 135 not really comparable to an m2 are they? genuine question.

if i see a non rs audi i dont think ooo thats something unusual and sporty. not like i would over a genuine m car (but as above not to the level of wanting to see one at a meet of actual exotica.

if it was an rs3 (if thats a thing?) then yes i would think of it the same as an proper m car

edit. to add by the above i mean so those who frown upon younger people pcp nice cars wont get there knickers in a twist over you surely.

btw im not young - early 30's but my main car is pcp. miniscule % because the delaer was offering more discount on pcp than cash but still pcp as it worked out cheaper and the flexibility of getting rid if its a lemon. so i have a dog in this fight. sort of.

I guess it's all down to perspective. Personally anything that is anything higher than an S-Line Audi is 'sporty'. I never said any of my cars were directly comparable to an M2 (however my M135i and the M2 share a VERY similar engine, give or take 40/50 bhp).

I dare say there are plenty of the older generation that seem to be expressing jealous tenancies would love to have owned a 3 year old M135i and a spanking new S3 at the age of 23, or the equivalent to whatever was popular in that time period. Although, as I expressed this is all a matter of perspective and opinion.

I was more getting at the bashing of young drivers in nice cars, and I would say I have owned nice cars albeit in a respectable fashion rather than tearing about the streets being a pest.

I never implied it as okay at any age? I can only speak as a 23 year old. If you are searching for a bite then grow a set of stones and try harder. If you can't do that, get back to playing with your littlemantits.

WOW. if i was being as much of a bellend as you i could ask who cares about your crappy financed s3, no ones giving it a 2nd glance, but i wont.

my question was nay against you, it was for you, in response to those who get antsy about young people in nice cars.

you for some reason took it as slight against you.

oh well

time to do some work.

Apologies, cutting out bullst in statements must not be how you like to operate. Sorry for hurting your little feelings. I'll let you get on.

On the flip side, if i genuinely misunderstood your seemingly sarcastic statement then it was an out of line retort. I'll nip off in my crappy financed S3 that you seem to care so much about, have a good one.. cool
