I agree with that. But prison was (rightfully) not the first port of call.
He crippled his girlfriend. Prison is exactly where he should be.

Strange that so many on here seem to have such sympathy for him.

He crashed his car. Prisons not the place for him.

Depends on what you think prisons are for, what they can achieve and at what cost.
Punishment, re habilitation, or just keeping public safe.

How does the UK compare to the Australian crime and punishment system?

I think the internet shame is now a sufficient punishment. I'm sure he Googles his name and finds this thread.

I doubt he will make the same mistake again.

If he was in prison, we could be absolutely certain he wouldn't, at least not for the duration of his sentence.

All of those, but especially the first and last ones.

Criminals in prison cannot commit any more crimes.

Yeah, there's a bit more to it than 'he crashed his car', isn't there?

He crashed his car because he was driving extremely dangerously, and crippled his girlfriend in the process.

I’ll bite, moron.

You know you’ll have to spend two years in your job not being paid - being overlooked for promotions because a wet flannel is more interesting - for every single year that this guy would be incarcerated?

Put that in perspective. Someone who has had a liberty removed from them for their behaviour can go to work and contribute to society, having displayed an error in judgement, or you can cost the taxpayer £40k a year because some nobody on the internet (pretty much alone in his view) thinks that he set out to kill/harm. He was an idiot. The sentence fits that. Most importantly people far more enlightened than you made that decision, and many more interesting folks agree with it and can see how much of a punishment it is.

But I suppose then if someone saved me from driving a Mondeo or a Yaris for 7 years, I’d probably see it as a gift rather than a punishment.

My life in IT is littered with folks who act and think like you. Zero real world experience, buckets of qualifications and as I said previously, likely only to have made love to a Kleenex and looks forward to when his parents go away so he can play his console on the downstairs TV.

You are talking to a guy who got convicted of DD and banned for driving at 137ish mph though, so you can see where he is coming from smile

I was at the car meet and as a local, i'm happy with the punishment metered out.

Fortunately the few zealots we have on here aren't responsible for sentencing.

Unfortunate.
Well, he may never be able to put the physical injuries behind him, nor the tarnishing of his name. Every time someone googles Corey McAlpine this thread will come up!

Going a little bit quick down a quiet motorway is hardly crime of the century.

Christ almighty - no need to get so personal. Doesn't look so favorably on yourself.

Well, I don't suppose you care with you being anonymous. I doubt you would say that to someones face though.
