Why is it only the R8 that that happens with (others in the group found the same)? The other cars in our group include a GT3rs, Civic Type R, Megane R26.R etc etc It's not like we don't know what we're doing with manuals.

A quick google suggests your friend's car might benefit from the linkages being adjusted and the transmission fluid changed.

My brother-in-law designs gearboxes and I just asked him about the use of hydraulic lines. His answer was that fluid expansion due to temperature changes would make the precise positioning required for gear selection more difficult.

Back on the subject of manual versus auto supercars. I've driven a Gallardo & 360 with three & two pedals - the 2 pedal version (see what I did there?) of either car was a much more enjoyable drive than their manual counterparts. Those rancid shift gate things don't help the enjoyment at all, particularly as the car gets older & the shift bushes wear a little.

Whilst it may be a little pedantic, it's not unreasonable to expect some language and grammar consistency on a website delivering news/journalism.

Back on topic.....it is funny how so many people say they think xyz manufacturer should make more manual cars etc....yet the stats clearly show the market is almost non-existent for this type of car.

Awesome engine and mated to a proper gearbox.

But I just cannot get past the horrible Audi steering wheel and general nafness / WAGness of the car.

I could never pay big money for one.

Fantastic value. Bought with 3K on the clock 14 months ago, now with 17K. Nuff said, cars are for using. Audi dealers, they're not, clueless bunch and don't get these cars or their owners. Unlike most cars like this, mine will not get a haircut.

Then you're no petrolhead my boy, you're a badge boy. I hate Audi, their dealers suck and most their cars too, but this one is the gem and you don't know what your missing and it would 5st your 911 and Cayman as an event, drive and experience and I say that as an ex GT3 owner and huge Porsche fan.

It's time we had a contemporary review of this car. I would love to get the opinion of a respected motoring journalist, maybe then the speculation would have some foundation!
As far as I know a manual plus has never been reviewed? Someone commented that Evo had covered it, but I have yet to find it!

The key difference is a proper DCT, extra horses, little less weight, standard bucket seats and a fixed suspension set up which gives you more to play with on set up. At the Ring last year friend drove mine back for a while and he had come from a normal R8 V10 which has been a loan car whilst his McLaren was being fixed. He said he felt the difference was significant and he is not the first person I have heard say that. Harris commented that is was potentially the best car of 2013 but for me it's a great mix of event, fun and sensible running costs. That is is what a 911 does so brilliantly, for me this does it better than all bar a 997 GT3 which was its competition from the time.

Well I kinda agree.

I know 1 other guy who I'd trust utterly and completely to work on R8. As in, if I had one. I'd chuck him the keys and blanket authorise whatever he said needed doing.

But there's lots of people out there who are crap! Too many people at dealers just want to drive them, (re: rag Which is actually pretty stupid given 99% of them have decent trackers fitted so the customer can check! ) rather than actually go to the extra effort. As you say, the customers are generally expecting a bit of attention exceeding that of a Vauxhall dealer.

As you might know the bonnet catches get sticky (generally the n/s) I saw one guy who wanted to go on the R8 training course, who struggled to a) diagnose it and then b) fit it! (and it's not tricky!)

Another guy condemned new discs but then refitted old pads!

Another underfilled the oil, necessitating a dealer visit to the guys home

A young guy fked up the oil pipe recall on a V8, tow truck back having lost most of the oil!

Another guy completely missed that the handbrake wasn't holding on the OSR wheel at all!

So its hard for the good guys not to get lost in the mire of ste.

p.s Don't see many in Red. So nice car and good spec with the ceramics
