I jest of course, our mainland cousins have nothing to fear, nothing bad happens in Northern Ireland anymore
Decent performance, nice period colour, low mileage, realistic price. Good find.
Don't discount the diesels, either. They are properly punchy and can be easily and cheaply tweaked up to about 130BHP. 55-60 mpg all day long, too.
I had the intercooled diesel L series lump in a 200 and the 3rd gear roll on acceleration caught quite few people out.
This doesn't quite fit the retro/classic part of the thread
But despite the lack of MOT it has an interesting engine and a lot of waft potential for someone not afraid of a bit of spannering

I like the Zedos 6 - quite a plush relic from what was an interesting time for Mazda
Apparently, there was supposed to be a ‘Daddy’ LS-competitor model as well - a stretched 929/Sentia with a V12 based off the 2.5lt V6 – but then the Japanese economy tanked…
There was a Xedos 9 with a V6 sold in the UK. Bigger than the Xedos 6. I suppose they were BMW 3/5 Series rivals.Apparently, there was supposed to be a ‘Daddy’ LS-competitor model as well - a stretched 929/Sentia with a V12 based off the 2.5lt V6 – but then the Japanese economy tanked…

They ran the 6 in the BTCC to give it some extra exposure. (And, IIRC, the Mondeo BTCC ran a Mazda derived V6).Apparently, there was supposed to be a ‘Daddy’ LS-competitor model as well - a stretched 929/Sentia with a V12 based off the 2.5lt V6 – but then the Japanese economy tanked…

Mazda used a whole slew of engines - rotary, 4 bangers, V6s in 1.8 (MX3), 2.0 and 2.5 capacities (MX6) but the Xedos 9 (pronounced ker-say-doss according to the following article) used a Miller Cycle 2.3 V6 where the intake valve remains open on the compression stroke but blow-back into the intake was prevented by supercharger pressure. Apparently extremely smooth.

Xedos 9 was fantastic, my brother had one but from memory it succumbed to the tin worm. I found him a lovely E39 530i replacement but he missed the waftiness - the Xedos was affectionately known as “the hovercraft”.https://www.gtplanet.net/mazdas-miller-madness-maz...

Amazing how your mind categorises cars based on very little information. But that looks like it would have been a far more middle class car than a contemporary Astra or EscortChrishum said:

Luckily, she met a salesman who really earned his commission when he sold her an Ital HLS. My, how I laughed...
