It should have been as important a step in car design as the original Mini but it was when Audis were focussing on quality over style and were 'expensive'. The new Mini also made its debut around the same time which were more appealing to many due to the 'fun' nature and the nostalgic styling and overblown 'cool' advertising campaign.
That may sound dull and boring but great design and enduring quality should matter more than fashionable 'styling'.

The A2 was, IMHO, too early. They've long been on my "nice to have" list but have not yet made it into my garage. As recently as a few weeks ago I was pondering an apparently nice example for a lot less than the one above. Whilst I pondered, someone else bought and saved me the trouble of explaining another needless purchase. They have their foibles and some parts and processes are expensive but there's an awful lot to like going on in that package. Yes.I think if they did a bit of a reimagine without ballsing it up Audi could have a cracking little city EV.
