Sills rust on them and the cost for a replacement dash is eye watering if it's cracked and many are. 2.0 is no ball of fire and expect to be beaten in a race bu Doris in her Honda Jazz, but they're great handling things. You can really attack your favourite back road flat out and not be worries about your licence https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1414592
My old one

Mostly galvanised apart from the sills. https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1414592
If you want a bit more go then there is the "S" variant which has the 2.5 lump from the 944 and all the suspension and braking from a 944. Porsche in fact detuned the 924S as would have been a smidge quicker than the more expensive 944 (944 is 160 hp 924S is detuned to 150) There is also a Turbo but does require dedication and deep pockets.
The 2.0 can be run on a budget, the S requires a budget similar to the 944, the 2.0 uses many VW oily parts the S more Porsche parts.
The 2.0 is non interference so a snapped cambelt is not a major disaster, the 2.5 requires diligent cambelt maintenance as a snapped belt is terminal.
Fuel tanks can rot, it requires taking out the transverse gearbox to replace, so not the easiest thing to do on your drive. Drains clog, causing water in the fusebox so they need to be kept clear. Hot starting is a common issue but fixable fairly easily.
As mentioned before, dash will be cracked, after market covers are available, seats probably require re stitching.Dont believe the odometer they all strip their gears so mileage is likley incorrect.
The owners club is great, really friendly, helpful, and is dedicated to the model rather than encompassing all Porsches and some of their knobish owners.
Worth joining if you are seriously looking as many of the cars are known to club members.
Good to drive, no faster than any other 70s/80s coupe, Capri,Scirroco etc, but well balanced handling so great to chuck about on the backroads whilst keeping to sensible speeds.
Much underrated

I'd love to know what he spent £7k on in the extensive restoration because it seemingly wasn't on cosmetics. Not that I'd care, I'd still bite his hand off for that price even if I find his claim of a £7k resto to be a bit suspicious. You'd think if they were spending £7k on a resto that the rusty steelies would at least get treated or the faded window frames.

I tend to agree but easy enough to ask to see the invoice. Edited by aaron_2000 on Monday 10th January 00:33

I had one a bit like that, it was a bluey-green colour and had the 'Zender' bodykit. Fun thing, loved the tan interior, but always felt very fragile and got rid as was concerned it was going to sting me at MOT time. I had put it into a specialist for a once over and got a long list of things needing done ...Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
