I confess I shared the initial reaction of "drive it more" until I had a little think. Opportunities in my life for long trips are few and far between, what with work and family commitments. 3k in 2 years is more than I ever manage. The higher cost of sticking miles on a 612 (through "market" worries or just damn tyres at a grand a set) would probably be an additional limiting factor. Not that I'm ever going to able to park that much money in car...

Lovely car for very special drives at the weekend without knackering your back and/or ears, hope you get to enjoy as much as you would like, and that the sense of occasion never diminishes!

What an utterly stupid thing to do, buy a car that you can't afford to put miles on.
This. It really winds me up when people buy a car with the sole intention of protecting its value through not using it. What a load of rubbish. If you cant afford for the car to depreciate naturally through use, then you cant afford to run the car. Simple

Hmmmm - it's a lovely car, very lovely.

But the OP seems to be treating it as an asset rather than a car..... and I suppose it is in a way, but it does rather diminish the whole dream of it, and why we all like cars.

More power to him, and you enjoy it as you seem fit - but I am afraid the reasoning doesn't resonate with me personally.

Not being an arse, but what does the moniker "One to One" mean, with respect to this? And for that matter what does "Sessanta" mean, as mentioned at the bottom.
Sessanta was a particular edition to commemorate 60 years of Ferrari with a two-tone paint job, quilted seats, electrochromic sunroof and a few little touches.

One To One was the Ferrari customisation program (now "Ferrari Personalization Programme") at the time which meant unique interiors etc available, BUT the biggest change was the clutch and gearbox from the 599, along with a few interior elements like the maninetto etc as an update.

I'd suggest that the 'not adding mileage' element has clouded what is otherwise an enjoyable Carpool.

I would say though that if you just let go of the mileage concerns and drove it whenever it took your fancy then you'd feel hugely liberated.

If you do want a car that you can put miles on, go back to Porsche: I sold my last 968 CS with 146,000 on the clock and the buyer correctly didn't bat an eyelid...

There's a member on here somewhere who very recently took delivery of a shiny new silver F12. He's currently prancing around Europe with some other chaps in various other exotica and racking up big miles in it. I follow him on Twitter and the posts he's made whilst on the trip with the accompanying photos are just stunning. It's not that he's a bought an amazing car, it's that he's bought something which allows him access to fantastic, unforgettable experiences, and THAT for me would be the joy in supercar ownership.

Yeah, when he gets rid of the car, he may lose a few thousand pounds more than a garage queen but f*ck, how are you going to lose memories of punting a V12 Ferrari around the alps?

Love the car Charly, but I beg to differ on the desirability of the two tone paint cars. To each their own I guess but mine is black and blue - good colours for a bruiser.. wink

What a lovely car. And OP was doing so well...but like many above the mileage sensitivity comment left me partly disappointed but mostly sad. These cars are there to be used and to be enjoyed. If you can't do that, what's the point? Life is short and you can't take it with you. The irony of why the tyres had to be replaced is not lost...

I can say this having put 7000 miles on my 430 since I bought her in August. I've just come back from a 6 day road trip around Europe and 1400 miles.

And as a serial buyer I would rather have a well looked after higher mileage car than a garage queen. Like everything it's down to personal choice, but what a shame to have something so great and be frightened of using it. I'm also of the view that I am lucky enough to own a car like this, others should get to enjoy it as well. Take out whoever take it wherever and let others enjoy it as well. But that's just me.

For years I was convinced that something that long would be awful to drive (as in a proper drive) but I had one for a few days and I`ve never been so wrong, it was light on it`s feet, and happy to turn in, then you realise where the engine actually is!

My memory of the 612 makes my GTR feel "leaden"

Lovely car, but have to echo others thoughts here. I couldn't have a car like this and only do 4000 miles in 2 years - I'd never enjoy it (but each to their own).

I don't think 4,000 miles is that bad? Not everyone buys cars for big road trips. It's still a hundred miles every weekend for 2 years. More than respectable mileage and enjoyable enough to take it on a nice countryside jaunt to the pub and back.

Lovely car op! I'd absolutely love one in TDF blue, tan seats and open gate manual cloud9

I can only echo what else has been said, if you are scared of driving it then sell it and buy a bloody Mondeo.
It's a Supercar. The ownership is all about the exhilarating noise, the power, the smiles they bring to others when seen on the road.
Strange that the truly valuable cars actually get used properly, as seen by the F1 tour a few weeks ago.

Mileage...

What a great pity. Drive the bloody thing. Do you really want to go to your deathbed thinking of all the great places you DIDNT go with it?

Give the guy a break, he's bought his dream car and it's probably cost him a much bigger chunk of cash than he probably would have liked to shell out, but he's shelled it out anyway.

Not everyone can just dump 100k on a motor then just not worry about it further !! To a lot of people these cars represent big investments and while they get they are going to loose money, they don't wanted find their down £££ come trade in time. He's probably already lost 5 figures driving off the forecourt.

A lot of the comments here seem overly critical IMO.

It's his car he can do what he wants with it, given the number of posts asking for a depreciation proof cars, says that he's not in the minority.
Plus to all of those saying he should drive it more are you going to put your hands in your pockets & give him the difference between his low mileage one and one with another 10-15k on the clock because if you are then stand up & be counted, or leave the man to enjoy his car in whatever way he sees fit.

I wonder how much each mile costs, if it sits in the garage almost all the time, protecting the value?
I wonder how much each extra mile costs, if it's actually used and enjoyed? A lot less, I suspect.

I think the 612 has really aged well - would love a Sessanta, but a one-to-one would also be very nice - such pretty cars

I put 28k km on my FF during the last 18 months, 5 of which it was off the road as somebody rear ended it - so don't really get the not driving it point, but each to their own - I do also take enjoyment out of driving it short distances, listening to the sound or just looking at it every time I walk towards it or away from it, so even short distances are a lot of pleasure. At the end of the day I'd rather have one for 2k miles a year than not at all

Having said that I am probably at the other extreme of the spectrum - I used a 355 for commuting in London - sitting in traffic all the time - a taxi would have been cheaper and more comfortable but a lot less fun

He is not "not using it" though compared to a lot of other Ferrari buyers - he is just using it sparingly as he knows full well what it might cost to use it more - makes the drives in it even more special.

I had two E34 M5's for a total of 7 years. They were incredibly special to go anywhere in (very different to a mate's 540i) because of the engine (throttle bodies gave it incredible response even when plodding) and its focus. In today's money they'd be over £100k new. Yet they all ended up near shed territory at one point because they were a workaday saloon (the second one cost me £4.8k). I spent nearly ten times that on it in upkeep and servicing because it was my everyday car - which made no sense at all, and still doesn't. While I wish the OP used his more, I can understand why he doesn't.

If I was on footballers money I'd have a Scaglietti and use it everyday and pay whatever it took to keep it immaculate. But we aren't on footballers money...

Bought at 25K miles. Was my only car and put over 14K miles in 2 years. Lovely car, even if some of the switches are made out of chocolate and break off in your hands. Still miss it. Petrol tank was perfectly sized unlike the FF which replaced it.
