I'm on my 5th V8:-

TVR Griffith, 5.0l V8
TVR Chimaera, 4.0l V8
Maserati Mexico 4.2l V8
Aston Martin Vantage 4.3l V8
McLaren 570s 3.8l V8 twin turbo

The best sounding V8's are not necessarily the fastest.

If you don't a huge amount of miles, then there really is no reason not to consider a V8. I'm lucky that I only cover around 6,000 miles a year, so the relatively poor mpg doesn't translate into a huge amount of cash. Put it this way, I'd rather do 6,000 miles a year in a V8, than do twice that in something dull.
wavey Hello Joel, it seems our minds continue to work in a similar way hehe
Hi Dave, long time no see! Hope your enjoying the VXR8, was certainly on my shopping list before I bought the Mustang. My wife describes the Mustang as like a bigger 350Z, which is a pretty glowing compliment as far as I am concerned!
Indeed! Yea it's awesome, horribly addictive right pedal hehe Went to the VXR8 via a Mk1 Focus RS that I loved, but just missed the big engine/RWD combo. I'm working for Ford now and we look after a new Mustang, chap had an exhaust fitted to it and a bit like the Z, it really is a must have! Can certainly see my self back in a Z someday, I think you wife has it right.

Brutal in all the right ways. Some might feel otherwise, but I sometimes pine for a black car like this that's entirely debadged.

Is there anything that combines old and new in a more delightful package? Overwhelming performance that we might have wanted in a pre-War detective comics.

This car is a disruptive product in terms of price / performance. A "game changer" as some in the US would say. Despite being sold by some (but not all) dealers with a hefty markup, there's tremendous value here. As you note, the soundtrack alone is a form of live entertainment.

Love a nice V8 myself. I have 3. Large capacity N/A is ok but you could do like I did with this 5.4 in my truck biggrin Much more fun
Imagine the torque. Should anybody need to rip a house from its foundation, they will now know the specialist to call. wink

5.0 NA V8. RWD. Manual transmission. LSD. Get 'em while you can, they'll be legislated out of existence sometime soon. Put €7k of 98ron through it in the last 12m, but worth every last penny.
The ongoing story that you've shared here -- about ordering, collecting, and modding your car -- has been great fun. Superb colour choice. And this photo brings to life the artistic lines.

Worth buttons compared to some on here but an ultra reliable factory 260 brake, plus magnaflow pipes. It's fast enough and cheap to tax, insure and maintain. The noise is addictive.
You have one of the lightest full-sized coupes in this thread. Power to weight and all that. For some cars like yours, a change of final gear ratio might bring additional performance.

Yep V8s are great! I have had an 1982 Mercedes SL380 (107), an 1981 Mercedes S Class 380 (126) and I am currently on a 2007 Mercedes CL500. Can't justify the reason to have any of them other that I wanted one.

Nothing beats the sound and driving characteristics of a big V8. Mine's a middling 5.7 litres biggrin

Cars are a hobby. People spend money on hobbies. The only money that is wasted is the one you didn't enjoy spending.

...is currently 16.9. I didn't buy a supercharged 5.7 v8 to be worried about fuel economy. laugh

I've become convinced that the engine in my luckily acquired BMW E92 M3 is one of the best ever made. With the race exhaust, there's nothing like the feeling of taking 4.0L's of naturally aspirated V8 over 8000rpm. Every time I get the inkling to change to a turbo'd M2/3/4/5/ or 6, I do just that . . .
Agreed, after regretting selling my e92 comp pack a couple of years ago I've been lucky enough to buy it back. You just can't beat the intensity and engagement of the naturally aspirated v8. It's not the fastest car on the roads by any means but it doesn't matter one bit when you drive it.

They just don't make them like that anymore. And it's got a manual gearbox so even more rewarding.

V8 here. I love the noise a V8 makes. I've been very vocal about selling this, but I am becoming more tempted to put some money into and get it back to its former glory..
You will never regret it! Mine is coming upo 110k and never sounded better. Blinding car that, when fully lit, is honestly all you need on a public road...

It would just be nice to have something newer, and still a V8. It does need a bit more go though imo.

My chimaera has a great sound with her, straight through cherry bombs in the silencers just give her that little extra , and the v8 rumble out the back is addictive

I agree it's a game changer price & performance wise, Ford are deliberately holding back on how many are made but what a car every time I'm in the US I just grab my uncles keys & go for a blast, the best bit is even at low speed it's still an event so big grins each & every time. wink

Mumsnet and What Diesel Monthly are that way ==>

I don't do the biggest mileage in the world and I don't spend mental amounts on cars. But I can honestly say that I never knew the mpg of anything I drove from 1981 when I got a licence until 2003 when I finally got a car with an OBC.

14 years on I'm still in a V8.

Life really is too short.
