RE: V8s are great!

I'm inclined to go further still and suggest that pushrod engines are more characterful, visceral and thunderous than OHC V8s.
I tend to agree. Pushrods have a sound and character all of their own. In addition, they are much simpler and cheaper than all the fancy, too heavy DOHC stuff and not really any less efficient for comparable power deliveries these days.

Just got myself my first proper V8, well, I did have a semi-dead 540 for a while.

Very nice indeed! I wanted an Imola red one when I bought mine but couldn't find one, I had to go for my second choice, Le Mans blue;
P.S; They weren't after me....;)

Loving your Challenger. Is it the latest model. Liking that front.
It's a 2015 - so current, face-lifted version. "Split" grille and rear facia are nods to the 1971 Challenger.I'm less keen on the rear of the pre '15 models that have a reflector across the entire rear facia, so it looks like a continuous light bar.
The really neat thing about these cars is they come out of the factory with 485hp which is a great start-point, if you plan to add power, without huge expenditure.
It's a very lazy, sonorous motor until you stamp on it, so is easy to trundle around town, pretty much on tick-over. That Jekyll and Hyde quality is very typical of larger displacement pushrod engines and makes it a lot of fun to drive. Low engine speed torque is pretty ridiculous.

Monaro here with a supercharged 6.2 LSA V8 with 1 bar boost.
Rest of the car is about as agricultural as you can get, especially the gearbox but the engine and noise dominates every drive. Still love it even after 11 years of ownership. Only done 30k miles though!
That's shameful - I did 23K miles in the first year of owning my LS3 VXR8 - less than 3k a year ain't lovin' it enough Rest of the car is about as agricultural as you can get, especially the gearbox but the engine and noise dominates every drive. Jeez, I did over 100 miles before going to work the other day (inc. 2 tunnel runs of course) Drive it more - your ears deserve it!

5.0 NA V8. RWD. Manual transmission. LSD.
Get 'em while you can, they'll be legislated out of existence sometime soon.
Put €7k of 98ron through it in the last 12m, but worth every last penny.
Ha ha, put £8072.79 in the last 12 months. Recorded it just for amusement - aint ever gonna count again, just fill it up every other day and enjoy. Get 'em while you can, they'll be legislated out of existence sometime soon.

Having taken the plunge a month ago with a 2014 V8 Vantage (manual, of course!), it's my first foray into a world away from worthy-but-workman-like 4 bangers. What can I say? You simply HAVE to experience this amazing engine format before you're dust.
The Astons are known for their glorious soundtrack. And it has that in spades. But somehow I wanted more, so it's now back at Aston Martin Bristol for a V12 Vantage S back box. This, from somebody who's never contemplated exhausts on any wheeled box before.
Sound is such an underestimated element to the overall driving experience and I want it cranked up to 11 when out on the open roads and above 4,000rpm.
I'm getting 19mpg average (dips to 7rpm when you stomp on the relevant metal). If you're getting 22+mpg, you're in the wrong type of car! In return I get a car small enough to weave down a narrow country lane - it looks bigger than it is. The inputs are all fantastically spot-on thanks to an elongated lifespan. Plus a cricked neck from glancing back every time I lock up and walk away. What's not to like?

What are you hoping to get from it? A lot more noise, or a few extra bhp aswell? More info would be great

Totally agree with you. 37k in 2 1/2 years in my VXR8. It is my daily and looking forward to my first drive into the office this morning with its new cam and overdrive pulley. It is now brutal!Jeez, I did over 100 miles before going to work the other day (inc. 2 tunnel runs of course) Drive it more - your ears deserve it!

I love these, they sound evil. Are they ruinously expensive to run?
I've only had it a few months, so a little early to say on running costs - I image tyres and servicing will be a little dearer than the Alfa....
I did buy it from a Merc dealer, though, so it came with an additional nationwide warranty for 2 years, which relieves me of some of the bork anxiety.
