Just wondered how the N/A camp view a supercharged V8? As it's forced induction but on the induction side and doesn't affect the exhaust side of combustion, buts adds a nice supercharger whine when revved up. The sounds out the exhaust are still undiluted by a turbo!
People on here always forget about supercharging. Love my s/c 6.2 V8. With the mods that have just gone in it should be near 800BHP and sound epic with 2" headers into 3" cat back. Philv8s said:

Supercharged V8 behaves just like an NA one except it goes faster without trying so hard. But I am biased. Nicholls22 said:

No problem with forced induction as long as you still have an engine note which most do but the best is either N/A or Supercharged you lose a little bit of throttle response with a TT V8 set up nothing that puts me off using mine but my N/A V8 is just that bit more enjoyable.culpz said:
A decent article this. In today's world, big N/A engines definitely need to be celebrated, regardless if they're actually any good or not. Funnily enough, if i was to pick out of all of these, it's actually the Lexus RCF that interests me the most, closely followed by the Mustang.
Obviously, the weight thing does seem pretty silly. But, as a road car, as Mr Harris said on his review, it just makes for a great car to have.. I love the proper coupe looks and styling and also that wacky interior. It's just something a bit different, powered by a sonorous, atmospheric V8.
Yeh, Lexus RC-F. A car that you can truly drive hard due to a bullet proof engine. Lexus engineering is just so good.Obviously, the weight thing does seem pretty silly. If you can't afford an RC-F, look at an IS-F. 90% of what the RC-F has, but available for silly money.

I get why normal cars like 5 series dont have v8 any more but why do supercars, surely they're in top tax band anyway. and most of them do 500 miles a year if the adverts are to believed. It's more aboit keeping up with performance isn't it, McLaren blinked 1st didn't they?
The thing that makes the Maserati such a pleasure to drive is that it isn't that fast anyway, you can rev it hard through 1st 2nd 3rd and enjoy that sublime noise without being too illegal...

I had a V8 itch a couple of years ago - scratched it with a B7 Audi S4 Avant - ran it for 2 glorious years (still makes me smile just thinking about it)
In the 2 years I had it did approx. 50K miles - I would literally find any excuse to "drive to see a friend down on the coast" - pop up north to visit family etc - as I just loved driving it. My wife didn't get it/had her own car - but that's fine.
Yes their are faster/more economical cars (now got an Audi S3) Which I like/enjoy driving - but doesn't yet make me smile
I think Jeremy Clarkson came close to summing it up - in his TV Series/Book about "machines with Soul" - that's how I felt about the S4/V8

Good to see like minded PHers in this thread who understand the qualities of a V8..
In these days of pointless performance figures that no one can really use on the road, it's just how it makes should feel.
Hearing the low speed rumble at town speeds and being able to access good torque when required in a standard feature in the V8 experience
I think the 390bhp 5.5 Merc V8 is a unsung hero, especially in W211/212 E500 and W209 CLK format. There is actually a 212 E500 saloon on AT at the moment....
The newer Lexus GSF looks like a great buy as well
