There is no such thing as pressed metal plates that are legal. The law dictates construction material cannot be metal

Dubmeister do them mail order and have various dealers around the country.

Unless the law has changed in the past 7 years or so then they are legal.

I've had them for 7 years and never had a single issue with police, MOT etc.

Perfectly allowable on classic cars.
Google for number plate suppliers who make plastic plates where the letters & numbers are raised mouldings integral with the plate itself. Pricey but VERY smart.
And yes ensure they are legal because as I have experienced should Plod stop you for some unrelated offence he will be delighted to add illegal plates onto the charge sheet. Actually I got away with a warning but it could have been different.

Hmm I know they are legal, I just don't know where to get them. I work for a main dealer, we will pass an MOT if they are correctly spaced with the right font. I don't want any surrounds or "fake German" ones. Preferably blank.

These guys are on DVLA approved list too. I spent ages researching this when I got mine.

Thanks, going to order from these chaps. The car was registered in 2001, not really a classic. No reason why they shouldn't be allowed. They're reflective, clear and stamped. And obviously look better than plastic.

I love the way they stress 100% legality, then show a 2004/5 reg for the silver-on-black plates.

"SHOW PLATES
Apart from the legal plates, we also offer show plates. These are to be used off road on special events such as car shows, weddings or birthdays and can make these moments unforgettable."

I believe the black/silver pressed metal plates are only legal on vehicles first registered pre-1973 but at the end of the day who's it hurting?

That's right, and I was pretty sure the OP wasn't looking for plates for his 1965 Alvis. The DVLA website has content relating to this issue, and whilst it (as yoiu say) doesn't hurt anyone, you will always come across the odd Dibble who will disagree. Show plates for show cars - absolutely - but no point in taunting an officer to add a FPN for illegal plates onto anything else he's trying to pin on you.

If it's black and silver / white plates you are after cars never seem to keep them long if the car is too new.

Agreed!

2. Rules for number plates

Your number plates should:

be made from a reflective material
display black characters on a white background (front plate)
display black characters on a yellow background (rear plate)
not have a background pattern
Characters on a number plate can be 3D.

No where there does it say must be Acrylic.

Good 3M metal plates are much better than plastic, much more reflective. Had some for years and never had any issues but as above quite sure they're legal.

I ran Dubmeister plates for 10 years, pressed ones. They had the British Standard stamp on them etc and have been through a few MOT's with them.
