Went to a UK warehouse last year where 14 F40's were stored. 1% of total?

Seemed sad to me. Whatever happened to using cars?
The bubble has been incredible though.

If you bought a Ferrari F40 to use in 2013 for 250-400K, it would be worth more like 600K-1M now.

That would be enough to put me off using it.

Chris Rvans offloaded his collection early in 2016. Smart move.

Didn't he call it "refreshing the collection".

Jimerequai however with what 80 cars might be in a spot of trouble - but I've a feeling he doesn't worry about £
If Jay Kay does not sell a car, or it does not depreciate below it's original purchase price (which is likely if he bought it during the bubble, or vice versa for not in the bubble) I'm sure he won't give a flying fk. In fact he will probably use the chance to invest further in to both cars and storage space.

I've been on about this for a while, the party is over, the only ones left are those that have drunk too much and haven't left the house...

Ditto for silly priced Fords, what on earth were people thinking!??
Seeing as Ford Focus RS's are going for a high price....

What about RS02 FMC, RS09 FMC, (and lesser priced) RS16 FMC?

I can only imagine the cars that those plates are registered to are going to be the peak of the market.

If we're clever then we all will!

Ford Heritage own RS02 FMC ,it's unlikely to be for sale any time soon.

I have a pic on my other device.

It's one of the most iconic Fords ever built. That number plate has adorned many a magazine over the years.

RS16 FMC is up for sale at £34,995.

RS09 FMC won't be changing hands any time soon either; it's got >20,000 miles on it.

It seems clear that we're reaching or have reached the top of the market.

People watch auctions with interest and all of a sudden, everybody says "I'd sell mine for that".

In the PH classifieds there are:

13 Ferrari F40s
26 Honda NSXs
12 E30 M3s

If you have followed the PH classifieds like I have, you'll know that these are big numbers.

In any case, I'd expect the rare stuff to weather the storm (but sales will stagnate a bit) and the price of more ordinary stuff will fall. If you're willing to hold on, there will be another bubble along soon enough.

Thomas
As someone who does not frequent the PH ads all that often i can concur..

It looks like a mass fking exodus from where im standing.
Im 28 now and i can fondly recall my school years flicking throught copies of classic and sports car on the crapper.

35k dino sir? 50k countach perhaps? 66 thousand euros for a miura? right this way..
Its a bubble no doubt and things are looking hairy! eek

Surely all of those things are still within reach for a driveable example that can be brought up to scratch over a year - 3k for a Golf or 205/309/306 and 5k for a Corrado.......unless you want an excellent garage queen?
Wow, are you sure? I'd love to find a driveable 16V Golf GTi for £3K! laugh

A driveable one....sure. What people will say is....." oh I want a particular colour, low mileage, it's too far to go and see, I want a COMPLETELY ORIGINAL 28 year old car and that one has a Magnex exhaust etc ". Those are the cars that are a couple of grand more

£3k - 12 months MOT

https://www.gumtree.com/p/volkswagen/vw-golf-mk2-g...

£3k ( or 2.8k with the G60 wheels rather than the BBS )

https://www.gumtree.com/p/volkswagen/1990-mk2-golf...

There's another one on Ebay for just over £3k ( £200 over - MOT till Apr 18 )

A hot Peugeot? I found at least 4 306Gti-6 with MOT on for under 2k. You can get a 205/106Gti for 3k as well

I don't know what peoples' ideas of affordable are but there are still 'icons' from the 80s/90s a lot of people can get for 3k or under

I think a lot of people want the cars being advertised at 10k that you could almost drive to a show rather than something to drive around in though.Maybe they can't do things on cars themselves or want an old car with no old car worries

Which is fine.

Me? I'd rather get busy driving than get busy dreaming

yes

I reckon £3k is plenty for all of them. I don't know why people want a mk 2 Golf GTi either, one of them was enough to know the mk 1 was a nicer car.

I can't see a crash for all cars accross the board. Perhaps a slow down in appreciation for the usual cars...M3 CSL, e30 M3, Z3M coupe etc.

I think the 'anything that's old' march will be hit hard as generally a lot of old cars are crap.

Clearly never owned one, clueless comment

MK2 is a much better car than the MK1, is it as iconic? Obviously not but still a brilliant 80's hot hatch that stands the test of time

so definitely there is some froth in the market for sure. and that can come out. but the collapse? I don't think so.

they just aren't going to make naturally aspirated, manual cars any more.. modern "playstation" cars don't have the charm that the older 70s/80s/90s have. In my view anyway. Sweet spot is stuff like 355 I think which is fun to drive and reasonably reliable but still "analogue". There must be a floor on these things as these types of cars will never be made again?

I'm one of those that flogged my CSL about 18 months ago, partly because I wasn't using it enough (yep guilty of worrying about the mileage accruing), partly because as much as I liked it, the value was more than I thought it was worth and I had other plans for the money

FWIW I also think a crash is coming, and when it happens at 993 GT2 levels, it will affect everything below that's currently being viewed as a "modern classic". I think SM has a point that there are still some bargains out there (got pipped to a €3.5k 850R Estate the other day), but on the whole it seems to be a market of selling cars on the basis of them being worth X + 20% next year. Once that's no longer expected, I feel an awful lot of stuff is going to hang around on SoRs, and this already seems to be happening. No tax offset for potential losses either.

Although it's highly likely I'm just bitter that I missed my chance at a 964RS wink

In my opinion at the cheaper end of the market, there's quite a bit of stuff that goes unnoticed. Can't afford a Mk2 Escort? How about a Manta - 1/3 of the price. 110bhp and rwd fun - same as an RS2000. Want a musical V6 manual saloon with fast, hydraulic steering - Alfa 156 V6 are still available at under 3k with a years MOT. Rwd straight 6 with a manual box and hatch practicality - 325ti for 2k

Can't afford an E30 M3 at 25-30k - have an E30 318is for £3500 ?

Plus there's quite a few iconic 80s hatches - Golf Gti, 205gti or iconic stuff from the 90s for under 3k. 306Gti-6, 106gti, Saxo VTS

People obviously want the same cars as many other people - the Mk2 in Oak Green with fsh, electric sunroof etc that's up for £15k - however you can get the Mk2 Golf Gti experience for a lot less if you really, really want one.

i'm lucky that I had quite a few of the older things when they were newer and cheaper - I often picked the unloved cars, 309gti over the 205 was much cheaper, Manta GTE - much cheaper than an Escort, Astra 16v ( unloved and loads scrapped but often a group test winner ), Saxo VTS, cheaper version of the 106gti ......etc etc

I'd like an F40 but even if the prices crashed, really crashed, I'd say they'd still be out of reach

Back in the day I unsuccessfully looked for a Manta GTE Exclusiv Coupe for quite a while, a few were going rotten back then. I quite fancied a Firenza droop snoot ( or whatever they're called) too.

House prices are static.

Those who need to sell drop price.

Cars will probably follow the same trend.

The key point is the numbers of the types of cars we are talking about being advertised is high.

I.e. So many csls for sale means owners are wanting out. Same with other cars as another posted has said

Why don't I know what I'm talking about? What has that got to do with your opinion of a car being nice?

You said I don't know why anyone would want a MK2 Golf? Why not? Each to their own and just like the MK1 they are a great car, because you probably owned a heap doesn't mean they are all like that
