Hi,

I bought a car from a dealer on Monday, a 2006 350z, and I had the car checked out by a mechanic today for ease of mind.

My mechanic has checked it over, and it turns out that the exhaust is a generic eBay exhaust from China, it is definitely not OEM. Obviously I cannot have known this when buying, without access to the car on a ramp.

Also, the alloys were in a non standard colour, I knew this when I bought it, but the dealer made no mention that they were non standard.

I have insured the car with direct line, who do not allow modifications, so for the past week I've not been insured properly because of the dealer failing to notify me of the modifications.

Because of the dealer failing to describe the car properly, I do not trust him and I have lost confidence in the car. As I understand, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 states that the car has to be as described. He did not describe the car to me accurately, so am I within my rights to reject it?
Quoted for posterity, as it's likely to be deleted by the OP.

OP, is there any reason you can't just insure your 350z with a company that allows mods and enjoy the car for what it is?

Keeping up with the Jones' (Your mates Focus) will always end in tears...

There seems to be a view, based on posts on other threads that you've made, that you're not being entirely open and honest on this thread about your reasons for rejecting the car.

Care to elaborate?

Might stop the abuse.

The insurance issue is a red-herring. The OP is clutching at straws looking for ways to hand the car back to the dealer because he regrets the purchase. Dealer has already said he will take the car back minus £1000 and OP is fishing for ways to pressure the dealer into improving the offer and making a meal of it.

That's the story he's told and then tried to cover up by deleting the threads. This is his third attempt to manufacture a premise to reject. Previous thread to this one involved getting a compression test done on the car and going back to the dealer asking for the cost of repairs be added to the offer if the test showed there was something wrong. That was deleted when he found out the dealer himself was following the story.

This thread then started under a different username.

Hey OP. You might want to check the tyres. If they've ever had the air replaced it's likely that the replacement air is non OEM. Major grounds to reject a car. I'd have a certified Datsun professional test the air for authenticity. You can test it yourself by letting a little out and smelling it. Genuine Datsun air smells a little rancid. I'd have a pro do it to be sure though. You'd have to fly him over from Japan but it'd probably be worth it.

Why is this even gaining momentum!

Exhaust is OEM but a pattern part and the alloys are standard fit but a non-standard colour... what, blue or just a slightly different shade of silver?

He did not describe the car accurately... but nor inaccurately?

I'm not sure if this is funny... or tragic.

Ok consensus is that I can't reject it. I'll ring the dealer on Monday and see if his offer still stands. Then add on cost of refurbishing wheels - £250. I wouldn't be happy losing more than £500 when giving it back, but 750 is ok if I can get it off my hands
If he's taking the car back, why the holy fk is he going to pay to refurb the wheels, you utter tard?

Do you have a note posted on the ceiling above your bed to remind you to breathe when you wake up?

I honestly can't beleive someone can be this stupid.

OP, what you could do, to keep your mates Focus honest. Is keep the Zed. Then spend approximately £5k and go forced induction. Get it supercharged with decent kit and it'll exceed 400BHP.

This is not financial advice, any decision you make on the above is made at your own risk. This would also be a Mod, which you would need to declare.

Alternatively, accept the exhaust has been replaced, accept the wheel colour has been changed and just enjoy the car. The 350Z can be hustled along very nicely, if you know how to drive it

Why would the dealer give the full price paid back?

After all, he now knows it's got a shonky Chinese exhaust and some moody wheels on it!

He'll bid you in the balls!!!

i wouldn't take a £1000 bath by returning it to the dealer if i was him. professionally refurbishing the wheels to the original colour plus a stock exhaust from a main dealer wouldn't cost anywhere near a grand.... that is of course unless the OP has another reason for no longer wanting the car?

I want to know more about this Focus and how much faster it is than the heavy, thirsty, old 350Z with the wheels of the wrong shade and the pattern exhaust.

On the plus side your car must sound more interesting than the Focus, even with aforementioned exhuast? And you see fewer about.

Just pop some Nismo stickers on and....oh hold on
