I'm thinking about buying this over the phone and travelling 170 odd miles to go get it

The website is really quite impressive....as is the spec of the car!!
That's a lovely looking car. Not a fan of Audi's but I do like these. Anyway, I wouldn't think twice about driving 170 miles if there was a good chance I'd be driving away in a car that I was after.
I'm not a big Audi fan either as they are mostly all style over substance. That one ticks a lot of boxes though and could be a perfect family car.

Depends how much hassle you want. If they have described the car to you and it arrives in a condition that isn't as described, you don't have to accept it (different colour wheels and replacement exhaust aside).

I would rather st in my hands and clap than buy a car unseen from Arnold.

Previously purchased a 3000 mile, year old car after seeing it.

On collection day, the 2 near side tyres had changed from eagle F1's to a pair of Ditch finders. The sales stickers that were adorning the sides and bonnet had been removed to reveal that it had clearly spent a year being parked in a hedge. The paintwork was in a terrible state. The salesman denied all knowledge of any shenanigans even when shown the video I took of the car when first viewed.

I walked away. Not so easy when you have already paid.

Very much this, speaking from experience. Go elsewhere.

I bought a BMW 318i Convertible without seeing it first. It was for sale on eBay listed by an independent trader. I spoke to them over the phone and mentioned that collecting the car was going to be a little difficult due to circumstances at the time, so the dealer offered to deliver the car to me for a nominal fee.

When it was delivered it was as had been described. There was a couple of bits worse than expected, but all faults had been mentioned. I had already paid so after five minutes filling out paperwork and the logbook, I drove the guy to the local train station in the car and the deal was done.

I sold the car three months later as I decided it wasn’t for me and managed to get more for it than what I had given the dealer!

I have also sold a car without the buyer seeing it first, too – which being a private sale is a lot more risky for the buyer and not something I would personally do.

I was selling an MGB Roadster and received a call from an interested party who wanted a standard road car to go alongside his track-prepped MGB. He asked a couple of questions, negotiated a price, and paid in full via a bank transfer, all without ever seeing the car in person.

The car was collected two weeks later by a car transporter, meaning the first time the buyer saw the car was when it was delivered. I got a text a week later crediting how good the car was – he was overjoyed with it.

Despite this, buying privately sight unseen is not a risk I would personally take.

go see it in person , saves the heartache of buying a dud

fwiw i spent many years in main dealers that dealt with motabilitly cars and in general they were nearly always abused and filthy dirty inside and out
