Spot on, I am 75 been driving over 25 years, never had a ticket for anything, best driver I know for reversing parking I know (blowing my own trumpet I know). Never ever parked where I shouldn’t either.
Age has nothing to do with it, by far majority of idiots on our roads are younger chappies, anyway rant over, back to the thread.

Taken earlier today at Cameron Toll shopping centre Edinburgh. Car park was very busy at the time but obviously the diddy driver of this didn't care a jot.

Sometimes it's deliberate ' I'm keeping plenty of space so no one opens their door into my pride and joy' type mentality.
Understandable. But the solution isn't to be selfish and inconsiderate. I can't get my head around that mentality, I'd rather have the dings than be a towards others. Would I do it in a busy carpark? No. Empty carpark - why not. The lines are only there to ration space when it is busy.
That said, I once parked in the middle of a Ferrari 360 and a 2020 rangerover. There were loads of spaces left, but. figured neither driver would want to dent my renault megane and damage their car. They probably thought I was being special.

I appreciate it was an exceptionally long time ago, but lets not hate on the youth because you no longer have it

I guess I am one of those who are happy to drive around what I would term sensibly and consciously of others. I don’t dawdle, I drive at a speed which is allowable or what I consider safe for the conditions.
Never had a ticket, (except one in a military land rover responding to a bomb scare, police were not interested, 1970).
I dont hate youth and have never said that, (idiots yes), but it irritates me when a driver just cannot manage to park their car and leave room for others, or those who park on dropped kerbs preventing those who need them from using them as is often the case at our local post office, for the sake of walking a few yards. Anyway back on track,
Oooh the pensioners are getting angry, best sit down with a custard cream and pen an angry email to your councillor.
Maybe it’s just Bristol, but the number of pensioners I see in modern tech-heavy cars like iPaces etc who are just not in full control of the vehicle is astonishing. They think because they’ve driven an ICe car all their life with little or no incidents, jumping into a powerful EV is no different, next thing you know, they’re a danger to all and sundry.

Guess age is not a requirement to be a crap driver. Take care out there you young’ sters 😂

To be fair it's not just pensioners who aren't in full control of their cars, tech heavy or not. There's just as many (if not more) of the younger generation in Aygos and Fiestas who have zero clue what they're doing. Did any of the fkwits ask why you were taking pics of them?
Nope and I was standing there waiting for Mrs Spoon to return with my phone out. I was hoping no one would approach as I had the Tea Spoon with me and I fear for an adverse overreaction. But why do they insist on parking in the cycle lane! Nuts

I'd take a guess that's it's at least partly down to the inconsistent road markings. Some of the cycle lane has double yellow lines in, and there's also one of those "don't block the entrance" markings in white paint too. Nobody has parked across either of those.
A lot of people would take the end of those markings as an indication that parking must be ok in that section (even though the bike lane is there) because it was marked as not ok a few yards down the road by the double yellow etc.
Without double yellows, I think they are correct that parking is permitted there, but the car should be left in the bit of the road the cars use (i.e. outside the cycle lane) rather than across it or on the pavement.
I think most other places I've seen where there is a bike lane (or indeed a bus lane) with a solid line, there are double yellow lines alongside the kerb as well.

It's simply an offence to cause a motor vehicle to enter a mandatory cycle lane, but this needs to be prosecuted by the police. If councils want their parking control officers to give tickets for parking in cycle lanes, they need to add double yellow lines.
Wish people here would respect that. Been forced into a cycle lane by many a chelsea tractor. Just keep driving in a straight line even when there are places for them to pull in. Hairy moments. SkodaIan said:

Today there was a knob parked in a two lane roundabout. Yes, you read that right a roundabout. It’s a busy one and trucks won’t have a chance of getting through. There he was on his phone. Scrolling insta-grim. Asked him if he’d broken down and he said he was waiting for a mate.
