Bottom of Hardknott Pass in Lake District this morning. Plenty of parking a bit further up the road, or maybe just park off the road where they were currently.

This is also a cause of paving slabs getting cracked which then causes further problems for pedestrians (having tripped over one outside Bristol Cathedral myself a few months back that looked merely cracked but had a void of 4" under it). As far as I am aware slabs on pavements are not intended to support truck weights.

Pretty sure I read that somewhere as well.

I did something similar in Naples FL once, I was driving down a 2 way street, looking for a parking spot, when I saw one on the other side of the road.
I dived in there a bit lively, and was locking up when a young guy sitting on a bench said, “Excuse me sir, you’re probably a visitor, by your Alamo Car Rental sticker, it’s illegal on this street to park unless you’re on the side of the street in the direction that the traffic flows.”
Thanking him, I got in and executed a swift manoeuvre, and was back in the spot.
As I locked up he said jokingly, “Nice move, for a Brit with a yankee car!”
Feeling a bit cocky, I said, “There are two things that I’m good at, and the other one’s driving!”
My wife said to him, “Ignore him.”
