I never knew this existed, had to look it up to see if you were pulling my leg.MK 6 Golf R Convertible

I thought I was going to have to look hard to see why it wouldn't sell but Evo magazine put it nicely.

Ford Racing Puma.
A production run of 1,000 was planned but was then cut to 500 (hampered by a lunatic price tag) and it's rumoured that less than half of those were sold directly to the public, the balance being rolled into the Ford Management Role Cars scheme.
The price tag was about £23k I seem to recall... essentially because they built the car twice.A production run of 1,000 was planned but was then cut to 500 (hampered by a lunatic price tag) and it's rumoured that less than half of those were sold directly to the public, the balance being rolled into the Ford Management Role Cars scheme.
My old boss had one - still one of the most fun FWD cars I've driven.

Vauxhall Meriva VXR
I worked at a Vauxhall Dealership for nearly 2 years and never saw one, either physically/on any stock sheet or on any order form despite them being in the current range.
Looks hilarious, I almost want one...I worked at a Vauxhall Dealership for nearly 2 years and never saw one, either physically/on any stock sheet or on any order form despite them being in the current range.

Ninja59 I don't understand your post. Ultrafunkula comments on ZT V8 - you reply talking about said car and then your final line is saying you didn't know they existed? Wtf?
Can I have some of what you are on?
Really? Can I have some of what you are on?
He says he was fully aware of the MG ZT with a V8 (the MG ZT260), but only later became aware of the Rover 75 V8.
I really don't believe you can't work that out
My entry - Mazda 6 MPS. Less than 1000 sold in the UK IIRC. Good looking car ruined by the engine.

I often wonder if this had been given an extra 10-20hp and an RS badge would it have done better. Some of the press gave it a hard time for its power output, but it certainly had the looks bang-on IMOA production run of 1,000 was planned but was then cut to 500 (hampered by a lunatic price tag) and it's rumoured that less than half of those were sold directly to the public, the balance being rolled into the Ford Management Role Cars scheme.
On a related note, I always thought if they'd used more Puma styling cues on the Cougar it would have been a very handsome car

Ford xxxxxx Vignale
I have seen one brown Mondeo but that is about it, outside of a Ford dealer.
Saw a Kuga Vignale in thir showroom this morning for just over £35k. Leather smelt nice but the interior still sucks.
Last Civic Type R?
I received my S-Max Vignale on a 2 year lease last week. It's great! (for a 7 seat MPV...)I have seen one brown Mondeo but that is about it, outside of a Ford dealer.

Honda CR-Z? Little hybrid coupe thing - not many about. Guess it was a bit too niche. About 4000 sold in the UK.
Toyota Urban Cruiser. Practical hatch city car with raised driving position - should have been all the rage! About 4500 sold in the UK.
Suzuki Kizashi. They only seem to sell small cars or 4x4s well! That said it was hampered by a big petrol engine and no diesel option. Only about 350 sold in the UK!

I don't think the last Civic Type R (FK2?) was helped by only being on sale for about a week before the FK8 was announced and everyone went ooh and ahh over it instead. I have seen one brown Mondeo but that is about it, outside of a Ford dealer.

On the subject of the lesser spotted Rover 75 V8, was it RWD? I know the rest were FWD, but the MGs were RWD and it seems like it would have been a packaging disaster getting a FWD V8 in.

Rs200, if I remember correctly they couldn't give them away.
And at 50K (in 1985!) it´s not too shocking.Mind you they did only make 200 in the first place and many of those went straight to competition, so it´s unsurprising the roads weren´t full of them!
I vaguely remember a Ford dealership in Kirkintilloch selling one on their forecourt brand new for a lot less than 50k.
Any of the original BMW 1 Series with a 6 cylinder engine - 125i/135i Coupe and 130i Hatch. Think they barely got above 1000 of each variant sold in the UK, compaed to the eleventy million 118d's they sold.
However useful for those of us who managed to find one, as they aren't really going down in value - 125i prices look very similar to when I bought mine 3 years ago.

Lancia Thema (I had a 16V Turbo and loved it)
Fiat Croma
In fact most big French an Italian cars struggled in the late 80s and 90s, perhaps the exceptions being the Alfa 164 and Citroen XM as people wanted Audis, Mercs and BMWs for the same money.
It took Vauxhall 4 years to shift 566 VXR8s between 2007-2010 (the original shape 6.0 and 6.2s)
They were so desperate in 2009 that I bagged a brand new 6.2 for £22,500 down from around £37,000.
The dealer asked me politely not to advertise what I had paid for it at the time......
I still have it and it's probably still worth what I paid for it but there again that's likely because it's not really a Vauxhall........
