Did anyone ask for a track focused heavyweight luxobarge?

it looks very kevin and not at all what a jaguar should be about.

Project 7 is far more restrained with a nice historic feel and its based on a 2 seater sports car in quite a traditional jag style.

Local Jag dealer says that's a definite!

Looks alright, but the car is not a really good looking design like the F type. I'm sure they will sell them but any investor is going to be waiting a long long time to make any money on these in my opinion.

600hp in a average looking saloon is not going to set the world on fire, this has been done before by BMW with the M3 CSL and Mecedes with the Black series.

In BMW's case it was the last of the the legendary N/A sixes and in AMG's case a hot version of arguably Mercedes best M3 rivals with one of AMG's best ever v8s under the hood.

Its nice to see Jag at least competing again these days butits hard to work up much enthusiasm for this

Not that fussed about this particular car, but I look forward to the regular production model SVR that it'll inevitably lead to, in the same way the Project 7 previewed the F-Type SVR.

Jag would do a lot better with 30 somethings like myself if they actually offered a manual gearbox mated to their petrol engines...
I've always liked jags, perhaps due to the XJ220 being released when I was a kid and having a toy of the beautiful XJS. My son loves to look at the F-types in the Jag dealership we sometimes pass in the car. An XE should make a great car for my family but I want petrol and a manual, to get that and RWD you're pretty much forced towards ze Germans, which is probably why so many BMWs are driven by my contemporaries at work. Jag does have an image problem (IMO) but hopefully silly cars like this one go some way to improving the situation.

Why? Because a 200mph, 600bhp XE is going to be huge fun, simple as that. Who wouldn't enjoy terrorising GT3s at a track day in a 4-door Jaguar XE? Yes, it's expensive but then a highly bespoke car, produced in tiny numbers is always going to be expensive.

Summing up, car enthusiasts have never had it so good, there's lots of truly great performance cars out there right now, Jaguar launching a limited run of 300 Project8 is simply offering (wealthy) enthusiasts another new and exciting option.
This makes a lot of sense
It does - it's therefore out of place in this thread that is so full of huff & puff...

I disagree.

As others have said - this is definitely NOT a car for enthusiasts - it’s a toy for gold wrapped Veyron owning super rich to pose about Harrods in.

TBH, it wouldn’t matter if it weighed 2500kg and handled like a tank - for it target audience that’s totally irrelevant. As long as it very expensive and very noisy that enough.

Others said this will lead to a more affordable proper R version of the XE. Personally doubt it. The R version would need to have flared arches and the V8 engine but I can’t see how if the Project 8 costs 150k what they could take out [without ruining the car] and sell it for say 75k tops - as that what it needs to cost to complete with the M3 or C63 or RS4

Given the American market has almost stopped buying saloons (XE, XF, XJ) for SUV's F-Pace and soon E-Pace and I-Pace. The SVO will work on a fire breathing F-Pace to match the German offerings. The US and Middle East are large Jaguar markets and therefore command attention

Very strange, but then I thought the Project 7 was very strange. That seemed to be all about compromise - impractical yet also heavy, luxury seats yet no roof, hardcore engine with automatic gearbox... This looks like more of the same, wrapped in a ridiculous bodykit and with a price that is, frankly, laughable. They need to fix what's wrong with their standard cars rather than messing about like this. I guess this is the thinking that gave us the XFRS, a car launched in idiot blue with dodgy wheels and huge wing as though all the tat might distract from the fact it was technically mid-pack at best.

Sorry, sorry. I'm calm now. I love Jag and it just frustrates me to see them turn the phrase "Speak softly and carry a big stick" on its head so often.

My XE has the diesel ingenium 2.0 with a manual gearbox and that works for me. Given ZF supply the same manual and auto boxes to Jaguar and the German competition. I agree that a XE petrol manual would be a nice option, I did have manuals in my V6 2.5 X type sports AWD, often slated by press and people who never drove them, totally different animal to the diesels, but 2.5 V6 did 150,000 miles with no problem, I had the last laugh laugh

F-pace SVR and Velar SVR are coming soon, F-pace SVR is starting pilot build imminently.

This is what I meant to say smile

I'm sure it will be fun to drive but it could have been so much better.

Putting a manual box as a straight swap for an auto isn't always as simple as it may seem. As you're hanging an unsupported flying wheel off the back of the crank shaft, unlike a torque converter, you introduce crank resonances in the engine-running range that can lead to premature crank failure, so you either have to redesign your crank shaft, which can impact on black design and/or design a flywheel specifically for that application and not use an off-the-shelf item.
Often predicted sales of manual versions doesn't warrant the possible tear up in design. How Aston offered a manual on a very similar V8, I don't know.

But on the plus side these limited run cars often have their own distinctive character and a production run of 300, on a global scale, is tiny. That's why cars like this often tend to keep their value so well.
no one is saying it would not be fun

The issue is with your own money would this be the 1st choice to spend £150k on a car ?

For many it has to be way down the list of cars to buy for £150k
