What a bunch of miseries, a 600 bhp, 4wd saloon and all you can do is moan ?

Do you sit at home weighing your cars ? its never going to weigh much less, it has a honking great supercharged V8, four wheel drive and all the kit to deal with that power and grip, its never going to be a Caterham is it ? that type of car, what should it weigh ? even if it was 150 kilos less, you arent actually going to notice on the road, do you all diet down to 9 stone and not take passengers to save a few kilos ? 600 bhp will move it with alacrity and if a few extra kilos makes all the difference when cornering on the road, slow down !

Point being, it could be a bit lighter but you have to look at stuff as a package, I reckon it will be epic, after all its not like a normal XFR is a pile of rubbish and they have less power and are even heavier.

I'm with you on this..... I'm speculating, but I think it will also retain the standard sound-insulation and infotainment etc. to make it a quiet Jag-like motorway cruiser.

Interesting to hear from a (potential) owner. Given that I have expressed some skepticism on this thread, do you mind indulging me by telling me what the motivation for your purchase was? How do you see yourself using this car given whatever else is in your garage?

Alternatively tell me to bugger off if you feel that way smile
Bugger off.

Or alternatively.....

I think it will have to replace my McLaren as my "special car" I won't be using it as a daily driver for two reasons, LHD and I don't anticipate going for the slightly softer four seat spec.

Really like this Jag and the details of it that Harry spoke of on his Youtube channel.

Would love to see an F-Type V6 manual being given this treatment!

I did once manage to get nearly 30mpg out of one. Don't ask me how, but it is possible.....
Here we go.
Of course economy shouldn't be a concern when owning a car like this, but engine thermal efficiency is an interesting tech factor for me. Driving at UK motorway speed limits, give or take 😉, I can honestly manage 35mpg in my Project 7: oh yes it takes some discipline. Comparatively though, yesterday I was plodding along in California in an Avis Mustang GT auto, another V8 5-litre of course. Very light right foot and as disciplined as I could be on holiday, I was driving at 55 and 65mph freeway speeds, but only achieving 21mpg. That aside, I'm enjoying everything, but the slush box, in the Mustang. Wow, the Mustang has come on a long way. During the day I was thinking how great the P8 is going to be.... I'm confident that it will feel very thermally efficient enough and a proper supercar by comparison. Still no regrets in my decision to order one.

You make a good point, but with discipline, pretty much any car can do 35+ at 70mph. For contrast, my 380bhp BMW will do 60+ at a steady 70mph, with no discipline, just the Cruise Control button.

I haven’t posted on PH for years. Long story behind that for another day but suffice to say I sold most of my cars.

I too have deposited for the Project 8 and have had confirmation from SVO directly and my local dealer that I have been allocated a car.

I’ve read all the comments here. TBH it doesn’t seem PH has changed much. 75% + of negative comments for a new car.

If anyone is interested in the process, I’d be very happy to share/answer questions.

Here’s what I can tell you that I have been told direct from SVO

1. There will not be a regular production V8 XE

2. RHD is not an option. It’s engineering led, not marketing led (at least that’s what they told me). I understand part of the 4WD system is where the steering rack would go in a RHD car and so it’s not possible.

3. There are just 2 Cars doing the motor show rounds. I haven’t seen it in the metal yet although was invited to LA to see the car at a show but declined.

4. Once the cars are back in the UK, they’ve told me that they will invite me to SVO to see them, drive one and to tour the production facility.

5. They’ve received 300 deposits from customers and claim to have turned down that many again who wanted a car.

As far as my decision to buy one. In no particular order:

I love that engine. It’s fast, smooth, characterful, sounds great. I’ve run an XJ supersport for 6 years with the 510PS version and the idea of another 100bhp with 200kg less weight and a bespoke titanium exhaust is very exciting to me.

I was not a typical Jag customer. They weren’t on my radar until a few years ago. My local dealership is a Land Rover/Jaguar. I’d had 3 x Range Rovers from them and bought other brands (Lamborghini, Mclaren, Bentley) through the same group because of the fantastic service they gave me.

I wanted a daily driver that was fast, comfortable and wasn’t the obvious choice. I was very keen to buy from the same dealer so bought a new XJ Supersport (later became defunct in place of the XJR).

I can honestly say as a daily driver, it’s the best car I’ve owned.

It’s not a common site on our roads and I really like that. I’m not one for following the masses.

The Project 8 is a huge deal for Jaguar. Sure, they don’t have the recent provenance of an M4 GTS or a Porsche GT but they want to be different. Can you honestly imagine Porsche or BMW inviting a customer to come and view the production facility? Their customer engagement has been excellent.

The fact that it doesn’t appeal to everyone, is a good thing for me.

I’m buying to drive it not to collect it. It would be lovely if when I decide to move on, the car is worth the same or more than I will pay for it and I’d be lying if I hadn’t thought about that, but it’s a car so I’m not holding my breath.

As a side note, project 7’s are £50k+ over list now and the chaps at SVO are convinced this will go the same way. Incidentally, a middle man contacted through a mailing list a few weeks ago claiming to have a build slot for a Project 8 that he was trying to sell for £50k.

Cheers,

LFB

I’m not sure TBH. I paid my deposit some time ago and they sent me this package today.

Obviously, only people who have deposited will get a letter thanking them for the order but I don’t see why you couldn’t ask for a brochure.

My photos are ste. It’s a very nice brochure. A3 size hard back.

Still haven’t seen it in the metal let alone driven in but SVO did send a racing driver down to my dealership last week to spend an hour and half with both me and the other buyer who has got one coming through the same dealership.

He took me out in an F-type SVR and talked about the Project 8 and SVO’s plans over the next few years.

I know most people on here have been very negative about the it but Jag do appear to be very serious about this car. The driver said Project 8 is a completely different level of driver engagement and fun from both the F type SVR and the project 7.

Their engagement of me since I put my deposit in has been just as good as many much more exotic brands that I’ve ordered new cars from.

I love that Jag are finally getting into the small run, properly engineered cars that BMW, AMG and Porsche have been doing for a while. From an employee retainment perspective in the very least, it's great to give the young keen ones something they can push the boundaries with so it can filter down on to the rest of the range. I am really looking forward to seeing and especially hearing one of these when they hit the road.
