Driving on the motorway/ Keeping left

I must admit that as it got more common I would more frequently just maintain my speed in lane1 and often ended up in front of them.
This. I used to religiously go for the overtake and back into lane 1. However it seems so common these days that I’ve given up and maintain my speed in lane 1. The only exception is when weather or other factors make me believe it would be dangerous to do so. exelero said:
It's been a while since I did a long motorway run, but last weekend I was heading to London on Friday morning. Now I understand there is usually heavy traffic especially on the M25 and on the M1 South and Northbound but I observed loads of drivers who don't give a toss about keeping left, I think we call them Middle lane idiots on here. I also understand that when there is congestion the smart screen tells you to stay in lane, but what I could see from my view is if everyone kept left there would be no congestion at all? Lane 1 and 2 was faster than lane 3-4 in fact lane 3 was empty and the safety car was a Taxi in lane 4 at 60 mph. I know it's not nice to flash people, but can't we just use the outside lane for overtaking? Last year I noticed the same on the M6 that the outside lane from the 2 was stuck with ppl travelling at 55-60 mph but couldn't overtake, yet in the inside lane was me and... well me only. What is going on? Is it that easy to get a driving licence, or just no one is bothered about everyone else?
GET OUT OF THE OUTSIDE LANE!!!
I agree most people can't drive. GET OUT OF THE OUTSIDE LANE!!!
As a BM driver I'm probably more aware of it than drivers of other cars, and probably you, as they're obviously not in as quick cars. As a finance guy in the financial heart of the country, I spend a lot of time on M3, M25 and M4, mainly in the fast lane as I'm invariably on my way to important meetings with influential clients who aren't going to be impressed if I'm late. Time's money in business, ask any successful entrepreneur.
When I started driving a few years ago, I'd always move out of the way for things like BMs and Lamborghinis as you knew they were being piloted by people with important things to do.
Now I've managed to get seated in a BM myself it's obvious they just don't realise what's right behind them, surely the 2 kidney grilles are enough to project exactly what's behind them. Why can't they get out of the way, even headlamps full on don't make much difference. It's really frustrating that people driving normal white goods stuff, like Fords, Vauxhalls, old blokes in Jags etc, cars which aren't decent performance cars, think they've got the power to just remain in the fast lane.
BMs are specifically designed to be run at high speed on continental motorways, other cars aren't, so why don't their drivers accept this. It needs a FB campaign.
A bit like lanes for cars with 2 or more occupants, they ought to only allow certain performance models in the fast lane, like BMs, Lambos, Ferraris etc. Easy to control with cameras.

The M25 made mild-mannered superhero yours truly into a regular under-taker.
Sometimes there's nothing else for it.
And I don't break 70 in the process.
Same here, i bi weekly do london to Swansea and back, i use the A40 rather than have to undertake 50 odd cars on the M4 every dam trip, i wouldn't mind but i usually do the trip in the early AM Sometimes there's nothing else for it.

Years ago it was middle lane hogs, now it's outside lane hogs and as for the 4 lane stretch on the M25, jesus fooking christ !

I do wonder if the coppers give a st about it? Any policemen here?
Coming home from Bluewater one night, 9 - 10pm M25 anti-clockwise, surprisingly quiet. I'd already gone passed a couple of cars that were in lane 2 without leaving lane 1. I was approaching another tt and just after passing him too, another car, a Police car overtook him in lane 3, just carried on and ignored him.So nope, they don't give a st. They could at least have given him the blue lights and maybe woken him up.

Those stupid dot matrix signs that are forever telling me that there are animals in the road could be used to flash keep left unless overtaking.
What about a campaign on telly.
Sure it would solve a lot of the jams on the A and M roads.
I think that matrix thing warns you of the animals sleeping with 55 mph in lane 3-4What about a campaign on telly.

With kn0bhead in L2, as 55-60 , and L3 full of the hoi polio ,at the weekends, I used to sail down L1, making as if i was going to undertake said Kn0bhead in L2 in my van. I never had to - magically, KHEAD in L2 decided that the indignity of being undertaken by a Transit was too much, so they found the missing gear and sped off.
Personally I was always looking for the refrig on top of the car ( as in the chariot with the fridge on top). ( parody on a well known song)

It's commonplace.
I drive all over the SE for work. The A1 is my favourite for this kind of sheep-like behavior of following the car in front, in the right-hand lane, for miles on end, making no progress.
I overtook what must have been 15-18 cars in one hit, not breaking 70mph, because they were all diligently following the car in front completely unaware of the fact that they weren't over taking anything.
I'll be on one of those angry dash cam videos soon "Nutcase under-takes train of 20 cars in slow lane". Fundamentally you can't be under-taken if you don't first set the environment for it to happen...ie. keep bloody left in the first place!

It's never going to get any better. I have to use the M25 regularly and very rarely see marked or unmarked plod, so the best approach is just to pick your moment wisely and get past them on the inside without drawing too much attention to yourself.
The lack of policing on motorways is a compromise. We can drive at a reasonable speed without hinderance, but we have to deal with the cretins.

I assume its a spoof. Possibly the most cringeworthy post I've ever read on PH!
might be a spoof but then again it sounds exactly like a BMW owners mentality.I always tend to drive on the upper end of the road limit so dont usually be on the slower lanes, i always am courteous and let BMW drivers pass me out at the first opportunuty however.
