RE: Audi RS4(s): Spotted
Discussion
B5 for me. I was fanatical about car specs as a kid, able to reel off various engine details/power outputs etc. I can vividly remember the first time I read about the upcoming rs4 in a top gear magazine as a ten year old, and asking my dad if the 380bhp was a typo.
The idea that a ordinary looking(ish) Audi estate had the same power as a Ferrari 355 blew my top trumps style ten year old mind, and left a bit of an impression. I would still love one now.

34 grand for an old Audi in a ridiculous colour ?
standard factory option at the time and on the S4, they look smart in the metal IMOWith only 10 genuine Imola cars available and rarly for sale, they seem to command a premium when they do come up for sale.
Low mileage on this one is additional rarity.
I've driven 2 B5s and found them both to be as horrible as each other. One of them shat it's gearbox on me having driven all of 100 miles in it. Stable at 160 leptons is about the nicest thing I can say about them.
The B7 has always attracted me, great engine and box combo but at the age they are now I would start to be slightly concerned of big bills impending. For 34K surely you'd have to take the B8, the other 2 can not be worth that money imo.

Having owned a B5 and loved it, I would have to go B7 with that V8. The newer one looks the size of an RS6 and seesm to have lost the charisma.
Silly Performance options are limited on the B7. When I last looked a supercharger was 22k but reckon it has performance enough.
Finding a decent B5 that does not need a new engine is likely a challenge and upping the performance leads to compromosed endurance and reliability. Though at just under 500bhp and 200mph plus it was certainly a giggle and just a really nice place to be when driving.

I had a B5 for 2.5 years and loved it.
Only sold it as I got a better paid job and wanted to try something 'nicer'.
I'm one of those schmucks that sold at the wrong time even though I knew prices were going up. Sold it for 10.5k, it sold 18 months later for around 15k and now would be more like 20k.
Still, I wouldn't have another for current prices - my 996 is much more fun though the Stage One tuned B5 was ferociously fast and the turbo delivery addictive!

I sold my B7 RS4 a year ago and do miss it.
Aside from an eye-watering bill from Audi for a new clutch and new brakes... it was a phenomenal all rounder.
Would I have another - probably not. It was beginning to feel a bit dated in the cabin and attracted a lot of attention - mostly good but reading stories of other owners having their homes broken into and a knife pressed to their chin for the keys to be handed over certainly concerned me at times.
Out of the 3, the B8 has to be the value for money option.

B7 estate in black, yes please!
I like the latest one too, although it seems to get a bit of flak in the press for the jackyl and hyde nature of its power delivery (discontinued now?), it looks like an angry robot - that is never a bad thing in my book!
