Looks like MG have come bottom in the Driver 2017 survey. Having see one of these Chinese built abortions (and driven it around the block for giggles) when my old boss took one in P/X I am genuinely fascinated as to who shells out proper money on one of these.
It was a horrible experience with no redeeming qualities and the cherry on the cake was that it had been sprayed orange.
I cannot imagine how depressed MGs salesmen must be every day.

A local chap has an MG Midget, MGF, and one of the Chinese MG hatchbacks (I can’t be bothered to check its actual name).
So I guess some are selling to people who are loyal to the MG badge, regardless of the fact that there is no real connection.

Harsh, but not entirely unfair.

You'd have be a total MG fanboy to buy one over something like a Dacia which is cheaper and made with Renault parts bin components (so you can get spares easily).

That's a bit harsh, they made a good car once - I think it was on a Tuesday. smile

ZT and ZS reviewed well at the time.

Sniff Petrol liked the MG3 (which is the one you're talking about, I assume)

How does a Chinese built abortion differ from a non-Chinese one?

I guy on my road has a old MGF convertible and a new MG

He must really love MG's

The new one looks no better or worse than the others at that price point

Can't see the massive problem with them personally.

The 6 wasn't perfect but handled and rode quite well (better than some of the supposed "better" cars) and the diesel engine was as OK as any of them. Cheap inside and some odd displays and design but OK if dirt cheap which it wasn't so it didn't sell.

The 3 is fine enough if you consider it a cheap 'n' cheerful run about which doesn't attempt to compete or be priced against the best. Dacia is probably the Achilles' heel for it.

It is certainly difficult to see the love for them but on the other hand I'm not convinced there is good reason for the hate either. At least they're not an Audi so they stand a chance of getting to the end of the week without the oil pump exploding or the piston rings going or similar.

I quite like the MG3. I think it's well styled and looks find. The reviews have all heaped praise on the ride and handling.

The 6 I drove was alright. The engine was a bit lack-luster but the chassis was as good as anything I've driven in that class. The interior was pretty shoddy, but then it's a cheap car...

I haven't driven a 3 or... whatever the SUV thing is called, but the reviews haven't been terrible.

Recently came back from Cuba, I was shocked by the amount of MG's driving around. New ones of course. Had a taxi ride in one, hardly pleasant but seemed to do the job

My mum and dad bought one, an MG6, seems to do the job and hasnt given any trouble.

"Horrible experience", you poor Lamb, do you want compensation ?

Its just a below class average saloon car, it has modern everything, a radio, air con and whatever, I think it is more just an Ego thing, as a car it works fine, not the best by any stretch but you are telling us that it doesnt meet your requirements, mainly that the badge is the problem, not a few scratchy plastics and a lack of cutting edge design.

Any modern car does the job, which is 90 percent of the battle, the other ten percent, image, performance and all that is the last ten percent.

I had a ZT V6 and really liked it, it's the only car I actually miss from the small number of cars I've owned, as above the new 6's are quite liked, even evo had a go and said that the handling was pretty good and the interior matched the asking price.

Not sure I could be so complimentary over the ZR though...
