RE: Porsche 911 GT2 RS - official
Discussion
With AWD like the turbo S I wonder how much quicker it would be? They have gone the traditional route though. Looking forward to the journalists driving it with all the aids turned off. I get the feeling there might be the odd bead of sweat on brow.....
Normal buyers will just be flipping them though or putting them on ice for resale, so no worries ( couldn't resist, it's true though )

Having seen their progress/improvement in GTE at Silverstone and Le Mans this year, with a 911esque car with the engine in the right place for the first time (and an exhaust note to truly swoon over) I'll pass on this one and wait for a road going RSR......if I could ever afford either!
"The stats are suitably impressive, with 0-62 in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 211mph. The new supercar benchmark of 0-200km/h (124mph in old money) is perhaps more relevant and comes in at 8.3 seconds - the same as a Ferrari 488 GTB."
Anyone find this a bit odd? The 488 has what, 600bhp, and aught to be heavier than a GTx Porsche.

People predicting the comments of it should have a manual gearbox, like it has become a cliche, yawn. It should have one. I'm certain it is ridiculously quick and that a flappy paddle box probably doesn't distract from the experience, I know with my limited driving talent I would want both hands on the wheel of a 700hp beetle no doubt about that, but surely as the ultimate expression of Porsche macho-ism that the GT2 is (correct me if they have made another more rapid version of a 911, difficult to keep track of all the 911 variations) it should have a manual (at least as option) box, just for the pure lairyness of it. It's a shame that markets seem so interested in top trump 0-60 times rather than mastering a difficult car. I'm sure a good driver in a GT2 manual (if they made such a thing) would destroy and auto GT2 driven by your average internet millionaire around s track but hey what do I know, I'm sure Porrche pay someone a big pile of cash to make such descisions. Glad Porsche limit the numbers though, there's enough of them on the road.

unless you are a decent driver how could you get this anywhere near its limit, even on a track
Another of the PH clichés. That is true of much lesser Porsches than this, but frankly who cares? Driving this car at 6/10ths would be laugh out loud I suspect. Driving most modern Porsches, or indeed any car of similar power, flat out on public roads would be a pretty stupid thing to do. And on a track? This would test most of us well beyond our capabilities, but it wouldn't stop me owning it. GT2s have always been scary to me, but who wouldn't get off on the thrill of driving one?Edited by Trexthedinosaur on Friday 30th June 21:18

The PDK does make the learning curve a bit easier though. I'm sure this is still more challenging to drive quickly than a 488, but its light years away from the "widowmaker" of the 996 or even 997. I don't really get the big deal about this personally. A Turbo S will be quicker, and more comfortable to boot - a GT3 will be more engaging at most speeds, as well as challenging (in manual version) Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
