RE: Audi RS5: Review
Discussion
I would not touch another Audi. After having 14 A5's of the generation I made a big mistake buying 2 new model. The car is badly put together and 3 major faults in the first 600 miles. Audi have been a totally useless. They pay celebrities to drive and endorse the cars yet a faithful buyer gets no appreciation. The new Q5 is even worse. Now made in Mexico I was told by the dealer that when in Germany one in ten cars going through quality control got pulled but in Mexico the ratio. 6 out of 10. Infact the cars are so bad that deliveries have been postponed by several months.
I am going back to BMW as at least I will be appreciated as a loyal customer.

And another thing! The bloody wipers. All VAG cars seem to do it. An extra sweep for no reason at all. Three sweeps to clear the screen then, just when it's clear, another sweep FOR NO fkING REASON AT ALL and, infuriatingly the screen gets smeared in st again. Pure marketing foolery. Drives me round the bend.

Bad steering and a bad ride. Why cant Audi get this right?
Steering is possibly due to Audis insistence on multi link (upper and lower) front suspension compared to the more simple Mercedes and BMW set ups.Ride is possibly because of Audis other insistence of putting the engine in front of the front wheel centre line. Suspension can't keep up with the weight "Porpoise-ing" so until they finally give up on this it may never get better. Even the URQuattros suffered in the 80s!
(I say this as someone whose not driven the new car though)

The RS5 was always the runt dynamically, but punched above it's weight thanks to the V8, not unlike the C63 used to do a generation earlier.
Having extensively many of both. The C63 engine literally blows the Audi V8 away! That MB V8 is literally up there with the Cosworth DHV from F1 as an iconic engine! I think the front of this new RS5 is a bit too over styled compared the last version.
Of course it's a long way from the new RS5 to the great daddy of Audi RS
Find a low mileage one these days!

This was largely "solved" with the B8 cars which moves the front axle about 150mm forwards. reducing the engine overhang significantly.
It's relative though. The front shafts are still completely behind the engine, so still a compromiseTake this YBT Cosworth setup. Front shafts are right beneath the sump. So effectively only "half" the engine is in front

Why on earth did you have 14 A5's?I am going back to BMW as at least I will be appreciated as a loyal customer.

Must love them i guess, but doesn't want to go against the usual grain of an Audi thread.

I think the A5 is double wishbone which should be better in terms of steering feel and accuracy than a strut type setup as it gives the manufacturer far more flexibility in how they can control how the camber changes over the suspension's travel. I'd guess the poor steering is a result of relatively poor weight distribution, Audi's insistence on putting power through the front wheels; and the resultant need to eek every last bit of grip out of the front axle to avoid making the car an understeery mess.

You know, you could just write "rubbish" ride quality. There are a lot of cars with rubbish ride quality on sale, and it'd be great to know before wasting time test driving them. Smaller wheels don't magically change ride quality, they just take the edge off - you can always tell a good riding car on any wheel size.
Black pit of an interior - check.
Dull engine - check.
Plenty of options - check.
What the hell are car designers thinking these days? I took a Mercedes GLC out for a test drive the other day and the interior was appalling. Claustrophobic, black, black, and more black plastic. Dreadful.
Cars are st right now. If you gave me £100k right now to buy a new car, I'm not sure I would want anything out there.
Morning rants, got to love em.
