Great looking cars but certainly not competitor to the RS6, M5 or E63 in my opinion, as it's underpowered in that company and not as focused.

This is more of a competitor to the Audi S6 or E43.
Watching this may convince you otherwise:

Agreed, the GS-F's performance is a tier (or two) down from the current crop of supersaloons but as Mr Harris highlights in the above vid you can use more of the GS-F's performance more of the time. It's much more charismatic than the competition also. A mapped F10 M5 would be amazing fun though.

I had a quick look around one of these yesterday at Thruxton (one was parked up near the hangar I work in). In fact it was the same colour as the OP's car.

It looked great and sounded great when it left too.

Because, sadly, UK is the land of the snob. Badge is what matters.
Really, Isn't Lexus thought of the same as the premium Germans? Price wise they are evenly matched, fit and finish I'd put Lexus ahead.
As would I but ask around, or even look at forums (yes, pistonheads), and you'll see plenty of people saying "its just a Toyota" or "it doesn't have pedigree".

They'll be saying the same about Kia when they bring there performance models online but a good car is a good car, at the end of the day a lot of people are badge snobs but I wouldn't worry about it.

It means that shrewd buyers like the OP can 20k off.

Speaking as an ex-ISF owner, I'd be tempted if I hadn't strayed back to Lotus.

Anyway, if you look on AT today:
- New, so 17-plate, £73,375
- Used, 66-plate with 1,250 miles, £49,995

£18.70 per mile!!!

The interior might have something to do with it though....

no lexus isnt, but neither is VW. VW is bracketed with ford, Vauxhall and the French. Nothing more. Lexus is a rung lower than the premium germans along with Alfa, maybe Volvo, Saab (in its day) and possibly now infiniti and tesla. However most people see it for what it is a rebadged toyota

As for the car in question ive never seen such a gopping, ugly car. The reason they dont sell is they are characterless, ugly, toyota partridge mobiles. Like it or not the Asian 'premium' brands will always be looked down on in the west. My old man had an isf before his B3...yes it did a job and was plush enough but it was desperatley boring and just a white good really.

brave post.

Please can you show me the Toyota this is based on? I've not seen one with a 5.0 V8. You must be more informed than me though so please educate me.

Which is completely different to the German marques in this country who never engine/gearbox/chassis/platform share do they?

To be fair, you do have a point, I just think Lexus/Toyota aren't the biggest culprit. The only Toyota that looks or feels anything like a Lexus is the new CH-R thing, and that's only in terms of image and the interior. The rest of it is all Prius!

For me, the reason they don't sell is because of poor residual value. Cost of ownership of most Lexus/Lexi is more expensive than the equivalent competitors. Someone might be tempted by an RC300 over an A5 or 4 Series but they won't pay more for it.

As an owner of an ISF I can assure you that fast 'Lexi' are not just 'a white good'! A small saloon with 400+bhp, 0-60 in 5 seconds and 170+ top speed tend to give a car character. Yes, they are a bit quiet as standard (as are all of the F models) but that is easily fixed with a stainless exhaust.

I've test driven the GSF and it is a magnificent car, same feel as the ISF but with everything turned up to 11. It is definitely top of my list when I upgrade. There is very little choice if you like practical, N/A V8 cars with total reliability! Does anyone really care that it only has 470bhp instead of the 600+ of rivals? Even my old ISF offers more performance than you can safely use on the road and it can keep up with most things on the track too.

People might be sniffy about the badge but once you've owned a Lexus it is hard to imagine leaving the marque. They are built so well and are so reliable that you soon expect all cars to be the same, but sadly that's just not the case. While most of the German rivals are undoubtedly reliable, a minority of them will suffer significant problems. When you are talking about performance models then the bills can be epic. Problems with the F cars are practically non-existent.

If you like the way they look and can learn to use the haphazard interiors then do yourself a favour and buy a V8 while you can!

I think it's a matter of perspective. I had a VW before my current Lexus (just an IS not one of the fast ones).

Odd how Lexus is perceived a white good yet when I had my Golf the moment I thought "Hmmm" was when I was at a crossing and was literally surrounded in every direction by Golf's all the same colour as mine was (albeit different wheels).

Golfs by all accounts are good fun engaging drives.

Have you tried the RC F? Whilst its no means light it does hide it pretty well on the road and its chunk makes it feel incredibly sturdy and planted to the road.

Also I think Lexus have been a little conservative with the performance figures as once going that 5.0 V8 really shoves it along with a soundtrack M4's etc could only dream of... We had a play around with a 2012 C63 AMG the other day and on paper the C63 should be quicker, but the Lexus consistently pulled away at pretty much any speed.

Personally the M4 is more me (better infotainment, bit quicker & sharper), but the RC F is a lovely car to drive day to day. Plus they are becoming pretty good value, late 30's gets you a cracking car!
I haven't because i'm no-where near the position of buying one, i'm afraid. But, i'd love spin in one smile

Mr Harris did say that, as a road car, the weight really isn't much of an issue and it is good to drive. It's more on a track where it disappoints.

The M4 is the dream car right now for me and i'm not even a huge BMW fan. I don't understand the hate for it, personally. I never have.

I guess we all have different views.
I bought one last week in Solar Flare.

If you gonna have a car like this why not have it really stand out :-)

What is really surprising is that used GS-F seem to have similar price to M5s.
No wonder they can hardly sell any.
