Unless you need it in estate form, whats the point? The M5 is a better choice imo
Because this will be the better road car, it's pretty subtle and has more class.

I'm sure the new M5 will be fantastic and everything but I'd take the Alpina without even thinking about it.
BMW make the M5 the car that would wring every ounce out on the track while being a usable daily - Alpina make one that's supposed to be your everyday-mobile.

Comfortable suspension, auto gearbox (not DCT), less shouty looks (not a lot, but still). If I wanted a fast estate I'd struggle to look past this.

It may be just me but while I love the idea of the Alpina brand and engines etc, the looks & wheels are just not right. Somewhere I read they take an 'SE' spec and add bits on - I've always felt the front bumper looks like a Halfords effort, and normal 'M Sport' a much sleeker, meaner design. Could be just me!
Everything else I love, and have had fast estate cars (now a M135i) and am glad they have a RWD bias - is what put me off a 335d touring was it was less fun than the 135 in corners smile

How on earth is this less shouty than an M5? It's got a massive front spoiler, 4 exhaust pipes, huge wheels with big brakes hiding behind it.

I'm struggling to think of how it's any less shouty than a normal M5?

who in their right minds would pay 90k+ for a standard looking estate that's so powerful, you will never ever get to keep the pedal to the ground for longer than 5 seconds unless on a track or the autobahn, 610 bhp, that's more than a huracan, nearly as much as an SLR mclaren, 2100 kg as well, imagine the fuel consumption

By your logic, who would buy a Huracan?

Someone who would spend this much would probably be the someone who wants something very very fast whilst being more practical and comfortable than a Huracan?

Well my logic suggests one is a Lamborghini and the other is an SE looking 5 series estate with a splitter and 4 exhausts that will plummet in value, yes the Lamborghini is twice the price but my point is why would someone spend 90 grand on an ordinary car with power that can never be accessed when they can spend half on a 530d that will have more than enough performance for every day use. Each to their own of course.

BMW have got to be missing a trick not selling an M5 estate, they can't play the 'M brand is for our finest road cars' card because they stick the badge on a gopping coupe looking SUV thing, the X6M.

WAY too heavy but I guess the abundant torque makes up for that. How have these cars become so heavy?? It's the equivalent of an E60 M5 with a caravan in tow, and that was a porker!

A very powerful but non-shouty road car developed on the road for the road.

A perfect recipe.

Loving the car, looks superb.

Not loving the wheels so much.....or I should add, the wheels themselves are fine, just a nightmare to clean!

If you can afford the car you get some one to clean it for you

Looks fabulous.

Imagining how many unsuspecting dogs will find themselves in the backs of these and wishing their owners had got 520D models instead, thereby avoiding being launched into the back window with each rapid pull away.
