Frankel thinks it's not shouting about its performance? Bloody awful front splitter with Alpina splashed across it, 4 exhaust pipes, stripes down the sides and a stupid amount of badging on the back? Pretty shouty I'd say.
That said, I like it!
I kind of understand what you mean but I like that look & it's a much better effort the BMW's:That said, I like it!

By your logic, who would buy a Huracan?
Someone who would spend this much would probably be the someone who wants something very very fast whilst being more practical and comfortable than a Huracan?
Well my logic suggests one is a Lamborghini and the other is an SE looking 5 series estate with a splitter and 4 exhausts that will plummet in value, yes the Lamborghini is twice the price but my point is why would someone spend 90 grand on an ordinary car with power that can never be accessed when they can spend half on a 530d that will have more than enough performance for every day use. Each to their own of course. Someone who would spend this much would probably be the someone who wants something very very fast whilst being more practical and comfortable than a Huracan?
Are you therefore saying one should only buy the Huracan purely on looks, and not how it drives, because you can't use the power? In that case, if we all agreed with you, then no-one would ever buy an M5, E63 AMG, RS6 etc etc...?
I see where you're coming from, but you're totally missing the point of these types of cars.

93k is a lot of money but I wonder how Alpina make any money with the substantial changes required to end up with this beast. Which 5 series do they start with? I wonder if they get them from BMW without engines or whether they have to remove and resell.
Alpina get the bare shells from BMW then add their bespoke parts to the cars, I think they only make 1100-1700 cars per year so they're a rare sight. The reason you'll buy one of these over an M5 that costs similar money will be because you like the ride better & the interiors feel like another step up too.
I can only speak from experience of my D3 & M3 that the D3 felt better/more enjoyable to drive & somehow more special inside although I think the M3 seats just edged it in terms of better side support but everywhere else when driving normally the D3 was better when you got to 9/10ths then the M3 was clearly better & more composed but for the other 358 days of the year it swung back the other way. The B3 must be a cracker because if they can make a diesel feel this good the petrol must be a blinder.
I changed the wheels on mine there are another two around my neck of the woods one estate & another saloon, so I didn't want to be the same (& they're hard to clean) so they're now sitting in the loft, apart from the above I've not changed a thing which is rare for me & I can't fault the car.
This B5 seems like it's the car to have over the M5 depending on what you want from your car of course, at the end of the day it's nice to have the choice.

E63/RS6/M5 all depreciate heavily the Alpina's actually firm up in price (but they'll will depreciate) whilst the more available products drop steadily. JohnGoodridge said:

I'd probably have one of these over an E63.
No badges and standard wheels please.
I couldn't agree moreNo badges and standard wheels please.
The convergence in this sector of the market is sad though.
10 years ago there was so much more difference. I could have chosen from:
a N/A RWD 5.0 V10 BMW M5,
a T/T 4WD 5.2 V10 Audi RS6, or
a N/A RWD 6.2 V8 Mercedes Benz E63.
Nowadays I can choose from one of three T/T 4.0-ish V8 4WD wagons.
Although I suppose I shouldn't complain too much. In another 10 years they'll all be electric.
A couple you missed...
Jaguar XFR estate (5lt v8 supercharged)
I do hope Alfa make their Gulia in estate format, currently no plans I believe.

because a 530d isn't that fast and you can have much more performance than one before it gets too much for the road imo Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
