hehe

OP - it's a Golf R estate. It's a quick and practical small estate car. It'll do everything your 320d currently does whilst being faster, but will use more fuel doing so.
Hold on. Buying a car is even more of a commitment than getting married. Don't you appreciate that both parties need to spend a bit of time together first before going down on one knee?

Think he might want his dealer on two knees.

Achieves the same objective. Metal out the door - I think a 2 hour unaccompanied test drive is more than enough. This bloke is never going to buy a car, like a lot on here.

I was nothing but polite and normal to the salesman, people on here will get replies in the tone in which they comment. biggrin

I don't think you know what a proportionate response is.

I wouldn't necessarily say that as I feel I'm in a similar position. I'm considering an MX5 or GT86 to replace one of my cars, but it's on the basis that the car is a long term keeper so the car needs to be the right one for me - i'm not going to find this out in a short test drive.

I don't need to change my car, I want to *IF* the new car is the right one. I've got lucky before and bought similar with no test drive and really gelled with the car but that was a limited run of cars so I didn't have much choice - for a car without that limited window of opportunity I won't take that gamble.

I think most people with helpful posts have had pretty decent replies if you read back, those just arguing for fun or having a pop or being plain insulting, then i'm not really interested in them.

Fear not. I type this quite happily thinking about all the waiters who have served you your food over the years smile

Again another bizarre comment on a thread about test drives, you wouldn't have the first clue how i treat customer facing staff when i dine out, not a clue. Really, either say something remotely useful about test drives that isn't an opinion, as I didn't ask for those, or do us a favour and start your own thread to make your banal comments.

You've had your answer from the dealer, two hours is obviously enough for you to experience the car and get a real feel for it and the two hours is enough for them to know you're not using and abusing the car as a free hire car!

Maybe I'm spectacularly unfussy, I didn't test drive my last two cars. They've both been fine. How bad would dash illumination have to be to put you off?
Me too. Last two cars, bought undriven. It is just a car. I would not like to be a car salesman.
We never test drove my missus's last car, not that she would drive it herself on test drive anyway. She went from a manual Jazz to a DSG Tiguan. She hasn't driven an auto for years and I'd never driven a DSG.

At the same time through work I was trying to sell a 30 grand bit of kit and the customer wanted a loaner to try. I said no - he said you wouldn't buy a 30 grand car without testing it! Errr...I just did! smile

I think 2 hours is exceptionally longer than you should need to make your mind up about a car. Seems more than fair.

This thread is hilarious!!

It's driving a fking golf laugh what do you expect?

Testing it out in the commute and going shopping?? Jesus, I've heard it all.

Take the two hour drive with your mummy and daddy and the kids and see what it's like.

What could honestly be so bad about a Golf that you couldn't tell from a 2 hour test drive? Bizarre.

I'll pretend that I didn't even read the part where you take speakers home for the weekend laugh

I Might swing Apple on the way home and ask to borrow an ipad for the weekend to make sure my nan can unlock it and that my girlfriend thinks the colour matches my skin.

I once bought a car without driving it. In fact without driving a car of the same type....

Don't tell the OP.

when I bought my wife a new car in March, the dealer lent me an identical brand new one for a week. It only had 4.6 miles on it too- fresh off a truck I guess.

we didn't discuss our audio buying habits though.

I did lay down a fully refundable £100 deposit on a new one, as I borrowed his for a week. I know, I know, its a bit flash of me, but that's how I roll.

Car was £33k incidentally.

A week, what a liberty! You should have done a lap of the car park, and been grateful at that.
