They had a Hillman Avenger when I was born; the earliest car I can remember is a Morris Marina.

My dad had a Vauxhall Cavalier as a company car, this was the mid 80s after all. When I was 6, he got a Saab 9000 and when that went away, he got another, both as company cars.

My mum had a Fiat Panda that I just about remember, then a Fiat Uno when my sister came along. When my next sister came along, and my brother was on the way, she got her first Renault 21 Savannah, estate car with 7 seats so we could all fit in it as a family together, as this was in the days before every child under 12 needed their own car seat. When that died, we got another one which she kept for a while as well. I learned to drive in that car.

I wonder if anyone's parents have a worse car history than my Dad, cop a load of this:

1983 bright yellow Austin Metro
1986 doom blue Peugeot 309
1995 Rover 214 SEi
1999 Rover 414i
2004 Vauxhall Meriva "life"
2014 Peugeot 2008

No doubt someone will be along to say how their parents had a thing for Ladas or something.

80's Chrysler LeBaron with headlight shields and digi dash.

VW Transporter (1984 ish, first year of the turbo diesel)

And the good stuff:

Started out in a mini van, with a bench seat down one side. My brother, dog and me used to roll around having a great laugh. Used to get fingers stuck in the roof vent though - painful.
From there Dad got an Austin 1100 followed by a 1300, then a purple Austin Maxi 1750 (CWN668K).
Thems were the days.

My Dads car when I was born was a Ford Prefect late 1950's I guess, then he bought a 1963 Hillman Minx two tone Blue and White then rust by 1966 !!!!
Then he had a became a one manufacturer man from 1966 until he passed away in 1999, hows this for loyality
1966 Renault 10, 1968 Renault 16 GL,1972 Renault 12,1974 Renault 12 TS,1977 Renault 16tx, 1981 Renault 18,1984 Renault 11TSE,1989 Renault 11TXE,1994 Renault 19 GTXTurbo Diesel and finally 1998 Renault Megane.
He was an insurance inspecter and agent for the NFU so his cars did about 30,000 a year so his cars were not garage queens they worked for a living. Apart from the 1968 Renault 16 all were very reliable as they had to be.
His favorite of all of the Renaults was the 16TX I am sure there was a tear in his eye when he traded it in with well over 100,000 on the clock

My Dad had a dark red Granada Scorpio Cosworth when I was aged seven to nine ...

It's a bit of an obscure and unloved car these days but it was the car that made me a petrol head and I have great memories of it.
