The cars my dad had up to the age of me being about 17 were:

F reg Mini Traveller
H reg Vauxhall Viva HB
K reg Morris Marina coupe
P reg Mk3 Ford Cortina
S reg Mk2 Ford Escort
V reg Datsun 140J
X reg Datsun Bluebird
C reg Mk2 Vauxhall Cavalier

All bought when they were about 7 years old, with the exception of the Cavalier which was about 4years old when he bought it. All his cars since I've been an adult have been significantly newer.

My parents didnt drive so my sister was the first one to have a car

Datsun sunny 120y

Man i thought it was majestic - it was a Bronze colour - being a typical 80's family who had just become mobile we would cram all the family into it and go to blackpool - Imagine east is east the film and you'll get the idea

this one time i remember driving along the promenade and some guys were stood outside drinking beer and they had to come over and count the amount of people we had in cause they couldnt believe it.

good time.

From an early age I remember my mums A reg Nissan cherry, two tone paint going on. Blue/silver and it had a choke. Woeful POS and even I could tell that at the age of 8. Apparently it had an alfa romeo engine?

My dad I remember having a Ford orion ghia, then a Sierra before getting a spanking new Vauxhall Cavalier, L reg. Nice car back then. Bright red, with airbags and electric windows.

I remember my mam having a couple of Saxos, one of them a VTR. She also had an MG ZR. She now has a diesel Megane. How times change.

FWIW If the "Cherry" had an Alfa Romeo engine it was actually sold as an Alfa Romeo Arna!

VW Beelte 1303 (dont remember it)
VW Polo 2 door estate
Ford Ka (sold to the brother of a great train robber)

Dad had company cars: a morris marina van, then a bedford astra van, then a brand new Montego estate every single year (#arentweposh)

It was sold by Nissan as the Cherry Europe and by Alfa Romeo as the Alfa Arna. They manged to combine the worst of both makes by producing a slow boring car that was unreliable and rusted to bits in a few years !

My Dad didn't care much as can be evidenced by Ford Anglia, Ford Escort Mk 1, Avenger, Avenger, Allegro, Allegro, Escort Mk 3, Escort Mark 3 etc. Most of them were pretty awful especially in the back. The Escorts were borderline OK but that's about as far as it does.

My best mate's Dad, though had Fiat 130 Coupe, Alfetta GT 1.8, Scirocco Mk 1, Scirocco Mk 2, Sud 1.3, Sud 1.5, Sprint Veloce, etc etc. Much more fun.

My favourite uncle always has something interesting including Rover P5B, Renault 16 TX, very early 320i.

The glamour of some of those cars and the lifestyle that accompanied them (road trips to the Cote d'Azur, salmon fishing in the Borders, etc) inspired to work hard to be able to do the same sort of things my self later in life.

The first car my parents had was a post war Morris 10. We were in Elgin at the time as Dad was based at Lossiemouth. I can remember sitting on my mother's knee enjoying the breeze from the opening front screen. So much for safety! Then it was a Morris Oxford traveller, followed by a Hillman Husky, then Ford Escort Mk1 estate car (passed my test in it), Hillman Hunter estate, another Escort, and another Mk2 ditto, then a front wheel drive Escort (I think) and finally a Volvo - a small type that I don't remember that well. Mother had a couple of minis - an 850, then a 1000, which my wife learned to drive in as we borrowed it for a bit one summer, then a Metro.

My dad was, is, a VW fan and used to be a regular at Riverside garage in Nuneaton. Fave cars were a genuine 'Jeans' beetle and a bright green 1303s beetle.

As the youngest I used to get to travel in the little box thing behind the rear seat. Safety first. cool

A bit of a variety

Vauxhall victor
Escort Mk1
Austin 1800
Datsun Sunny
Fiat 131
Cortina
Fiat Strada
Fiat X1/9
Austin Ambassador
Cavalier MK2

The order is a bit off but it was a while ago!

I was given the choice of learning to drive in the Ambassador or the X1/9...

First I remember was a BMW 3.0Li Dad had that got replaced by a brand new 728i in 1977. There followed more BMW's for him a Bentley, more BMW's & finally a 2001 DB7

Mum had a Mk1 Fiesta 1.1, it was her first car as she only learned to drive in the mid 70's! She then had various Fords, Dad knew a chap who attended Ford dealer auctions so always had him buy an ex management car for her. She now has a Disco 4.
