My Dad had a red Ford Orion (I think) with a sunroof. I remember us both at Farnborough AirShow and I was stood up with each leg on the top of one of the front seats with my torso out the roof while I was watching everything going on.

My mum had this purlple Ford KA sh*tbox. The word 'expendable' comes to mind whenever I think of that car. It barely got up any sort of incline and I remember my friend was properly sick in the back of it. Smelled f*cking disgusting. I also remember my Mum picking me up from primary school one day and then a mere 30 seconds later pulling handbrake turns in the gravel car park opposite belonging to a pub.

I still have an old Jag which was my late dad's company car in the early '90s. I will never sell it. It was his second XJ40 - he had previously bought one of the first cars back in '87.

What a lovely picture. Can you imagine being let loose cleaning such a car with a bucket and sponge these days?

The DB5 is quite stunning obviously, but I've always liked the other car in that photo - the Scimitar Coupe. Your parents certainly had exquisite taste.

Daf 33.
Renault 4 Van.
Rather nice grey Citroen GS.
Replaced by a Marina Estate. Never forgave my Dad for that one.

Thanks for that beer
My father died 18 months ago and I am sat here looking through old photos of him and the cars he owned.
He was a real enthusiast and drove a lot of interesting motors over the years – many of which I had forgotten about!

When I was born my parents both owned Minis. I was slung on the back seat held loosely in a carry cot.

However when my sister arrived, we moved on to this beauty (same colour) Unfortunately this was my first memory of my Dads tragic car history!!

I see the DB5 has a towbar fitted - for towing what - a caravan?bounce

There was a period when they were cheap - my father bought a 1960 DB4 for commuting to work in '75 from a dealer in Boston for £975 out of Exchange and Mart - whilst the same year my mother bought a Riley RMB for £550 to replace her Hillman Minx

Car trailer, mainly... laugh
DB4 - nice!
Your father thought like mine did - the DB5 was used as a daily hack - this was the early 1970's when they were just secondhand cars.
Not the same, now...

The DB4 was very cool to be dropped off at school - as a kid I loved cleaning the wire wheels.

I never got to drive it and when company cars were introduced (VX Cavaliers) in '81 it stopped being used and he did a straight swap for a '30 International through the AMOC which he still has........

Meantime NJV 320 appears to have gone first to Red and then exported.

When I was born my dad had a Ford Popular (103E).

The first car I actually remember was a white Reliant Rebel.

Then, as the family grew...

Cortina MkI estate
Cortina MkII estate
Consul Estate
Granada Estate (x3)
Granada Scorpio
Cavalier
BMC LD Camper(converted ambulance)
Transit Camper (converted ambulance)
A crappy MkV Escort when he gave up on life (but he is nearly 70, so I'll let him off)

There were a few others, but I don't remember them as I was away from home when he owned them.

My mum had two cars. A red three-door Vauxhall Viva that eventually turned brown and dissolved into a stain on the driveway waiting for my dad to "do it up", and a 1970s Mini that used to belong to my brother, but had an engine bay fire (minor). That's still sat on their driveway, rotting at the seams as my dad won't give in and admit that he's too old and immobile now to undertake a restoration project....

My dad had a Austin 1300 when I was born & kept it till I was 5.
He then bought a new 1972 Toyota carina deluxe that was used till the early 90's.

In that time they bought a Honda C70, in yellow, that both my mum and dad used.

My mother then moved onto Reliants after dropping the C70 one winters morning.

She had 3 or 4 Regal vans, a couple of Regal saloons, a robin van and the last car that my mum and dad shared was a Rialto hatch they bought when my mum retired.
Needless to say both my father and myself became quite good at glassfibre repairs as my mum wasn't a natural driver.

I remember ask a kid my dad having three old Bedford vans, two being donor's.
He had a Morris Minor and an Austen 1100 in the early 70's.
Then came his P&J, a Rover 2000.
Followed by a Rover 2200TC.
His final car before he hung up his gloves was a Hillman Imp that I gave him. He loved it. Best present I ever gave him.

Can't remember all of them, but the most memorable.... (pics not of actual vehicles).

Datsun 120Y

Citroen CX Estate in Gold

And my mum had a Citroen Dyane in lurid green

The CX was memorable for failing to get through a fairly shallow ford, as Citroen had put the electrics so low down in the engine bay that something important got wet.

The Dyane was memorable as I remember getting caught in a hailstorm, and the hailstones peppered through the roof leaving holes all over the place and the inside of the car soaked.
