My dad had a series of Saab 9000's, possibly 5 in a row, they're the earliest I remember. In those days I recall my brother and I shouting 'faster dad faster' and he'd kindly oblige. When the 9-5 came out he wasn't a fan so moved on to a trio of Mercedes. The first of which was a 2000 facelift clk200. A lovely looking car in it's day but massively under powered. I remember him letting me drive it in the middle of the night down a local country lane, the first car I'd driven on the road, age 15. Only instruction was not to tell mum! I think the next two were c230's. The lower powered cars seemed to be a turning point for dad becoming a much slower driver.

He's now moved onto Bmw's, being on his second 3 series, a mighty 2014 320.

Before all that and beyond my memory, I have a photo of me stood with his BMW 5 series, I'd guess I was 2 maybe 3. Another photo, that I look even younger in, I believe is a Peugeot pickup of some description in a fetching orange colour.

Mum's car history was much shorter and simpler, she had a 1984 ford fiesta pop plus in the nicest beige paintwork you could imagine. The colour of the paintwork pretty much summed the car up, very dull and very boring. 950cc 4 speed manual. It had no radio, hell it didn't even have a glove box, just a shelf.

The fiesta lasted until 1999, when I think my brother took it over upon passing his test. To be fair, I learnt how to use the clutch and gears by watching mum driving that car, clearly there was nothing better to do with no radio and with that powerful engine there were a lot of gear changes to get anywhere. I recall dad took me to drive it around a local industrial estate late one night, don't tell mum.

That was replaced with a 1999 golf 1.4e. This one had a radio, a glove box, even air conditioning no less. No central locking or electric windows though. I eventually ended up having this car for a couple of years in 2012, I must admit, it was actually quite fun to drive in a strange way. Overtakes had to be planned well in advance!

Triumph T110 and to my dads disgust he had to put a sidecar on when I arrived and I bounced around in my carry-cot.
Mum used to sit on the back of the bike attending to my needs through a sliding side window.
Grandad gave my Dad an old sit-up and beg pop and that started a lifetime of Fords, Cortina's & Capri mainly eventually ending up with a Focus.
I have followed the old-man with Triumph bikes and Ford cars mainly MK3 Cortina's but I visited the darkside once and bought an A plate Bluebird.

Dad -

E-type convertible
Ferrari Dino
Porsche 924 (whoops!)
Series of Range Rovers - he swapped them every few years until one year when he came home from the garage saying that a new one would cost more than he paid for our house - so he just kept the last one.

Mum -

Saab 99 Turbo
Audi coupe quattro
Citroen Xsara Picasso (bought when dad was ill)

Great thread, think I've read every post.

J reg (1970) Honda N600? (Tiny car, size of an old mini), blue, bought used around 1975, broke down a lot, maybe that's why it was cheap.
R reg (1977) Datsun sunny 120Y, bought new, white 4 door saloon auto with a black vinyl roof, which started peeling off at the front within a couple of months. It had been applied at the dealership on the morning we picked up the car, so probably not dried, looked like a quif.
X reg (1981) Renault 18TS estate, metallic green, bought used around 1985, complete crap, needed a recon engine within 3-4 months after buying. Seats were comfy though, great for when we were waiting for breakdown rescue.
D reg (1986) Volvo 240GL estate auto, bought new (skidded into a parked Porsche 924 by me, repaired and kept till 1993.
K reg (1993) Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0i GLS auto hatch in red, bought used at 6 months old from a car supermarket, ex rental I think, really liked that car, felt "sporty" compared to the previous cars and the first to have fuel injection (more exciting for me than Dad).
S reg (1998) Seat Alhambra 2.0 petrol auto, blue, bought new, however it seemed to attract every hit and run driver in south London, by the time it was sold, it had scrapes all over.
