Fair play for trying but I'll have to remain skeptical for now, a Peugeot Sport 208gti is a bloody superb driving machine and the Fiesta ST is no mediocre slouch either so this would have to be very good indeed to take on those two IMO, especially if that price is correct, short of heavy discounting it's way more costly than any of its obvious rivals

Sorry if it's already been mentioned, couldn't be arsed reading the thread (lazy millennial snowflake), but any idea if there will be a proper production run of this car in the UK? I'd fancy one as my next car if they do.

I love the idea and the fact there's no switchable modes and fake pops/bangs.

Interesting that the article suggests Toyota's line wouldn't stop for anything... actually their success was due to line operators being enabled to stop the line whenever something was wrong! It was the root cause analysis and countermeasures to improve quality and reduce stoppages that created the Toyota Production System (as well as many other things).

I ordered one in the Netherlands. Delivery in Feb' 18. Already sold out in Germany and France. I agree that the price is steep but it appears that a lot of effort went into it for a tiny production batch (400 total) and it comes with expensive parts for its class; engine (from Lotus Elise), 4 piston brakes, Sachs suspension, LSD, special seats etc. What appeals to me most is that it's a special project by 20 or so Toyota Motorsport engineers who put their souls into it for almost a year. I'm hoping will deliver lots of fun. BTW, I'm normally a Porsche/BMW guy and this will be my first Toyota and first FWD car. smile

“Toyota's stated objective for the car is clear and concise: for it to be the lightest, fastest and most powerful car in its class.“

Having looked at the numbers:

Toyota GRMN

Weight - 1,135kg
0-60 - 6.3
Power - 213

Abarth 695 Biposto

Weight - 997kg
0-60 - 5.9
Power - 190bhp

I’ve noticed in Toyota’s literature they’ve dropped the weight claim but still stating “best in class acceleration”

So really they have most power for the class.

Is the 500 / 695 in the same class as a Yaris? I thought it was one 'class' smaller.

Autocar call them both a small city car although they also say the competition is fiestas and polos.
