OK - hypothetical question but....

Assuming the following car is stripped to the bare chassis. How much would you guess it would cost to have it blasted, replacement tubes welded back in and painted a single primary colour??

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UVA-Fugitive-2/263091529...

Impossible question I know and I don't intend to bid on this but I'm interested to see what people think.

It would be cheaper to start from scratch. The only thing you could restore from that is the v5.

Blasting probably £100, I'd want £75 per tube replaced, then no idea with the painting, but I wouldn't expect much change out of £500.

Not dissimilar to working on a TVR type chassis.

It may vary all over the country, but I reckon anywhere between £500.00 to a grand would get it done.

250-350 blasting

tubes- dunno depends if man in shed or motorsport company

paint £500-600

youd want it done at seperate places , as guys that are good at blasting arent the best at welding /painting nd so on

Agreed. How much do you think it will go for?

I guess we will see!

in order to answer the OP, I see quite a few chassis frames down at the local shot blasters... Its always interesting to look. Over the years he has done various ones, I have seen quite a few TVR and Lotus 7 ones there. Once they are blasted, its amazing what is revealed... the tubes rot from outside and inside, but the inside rot is often not revealed until its blasted. you often see holes appear at many of the welded joints that initially looked OK.

Looking at the pictures on that UVA, I would imagine it will need lots of tubes replacing...

My real feeling is, the auction will be ended early, through an out of auction offer, and, as someone said above, it'll be used for the logbook for a fresh build. What's pictured will end up in the bin.

If you were replacing the tube-work you'd pretty much have to stick it on a jig and then replace it all with new! Not an easy job.

difficulty is, placing a value on it as the seller says... I think it will run to the end so he maximises his price.

I sold the car below for a friend a few years ago, I put it on Ebay as a fixed price sale for a month at £50,000 and said in the advert that if no one bought it, at the end of the month I would be auctioning it off at on a no reserve auction. Of course I knew it was not worth anywhere near £50k, but it got a months exposure and interest for a few quid. I said in the advert that it was not worth the money, but wanted exposure as it was a rare car.

I had lots of interest and questions, and offers... Several people came to look, and made offers, (best was £4000, and he was VERY keen! ) but I said that as I had no idea what it was ultimately worth, the best thing to do was auction it, which I did. I knew they guy would at least bid £4000.

within a few days of the auction, there were a few bids, the first one being a guy with a good rating. as others bid, his bid automatically out bid them... On the last day, the guy who had come to see it bid £4000, but that was automatically outbid. in the last few seconds, the guy who came to see it bid £8000, but he lost it as the same bid had been placed by the first bidder! (EBay rules are if two bidders bid the same, the first bid wins) The guy collected the car the week after the auction finished. great result for my mate who had just been diagnosed with a serious illness.

it was interesting that two reputable auction houses had put a value on it of £2000...

Yep. As suspected. Probable money pit. If I was closer I could at least go and take a look.

I've been looking for one of these for a while that is correctly registered. Suppose I had better keep looking. Why did I sell my last one? Bugger.

And the result was no bids. If only I was a bit nearer I could justify a little drive to see it.
