I thought of this thread yesterday when I was collecting my car from VW because it was having a new driver side window. As the night before I'd been to Birmingham for workmates leaving meal, and I left my golf parked on the street nearby. I didn't think it would attract any attention as its a blue one and no GTI badging. To cut a long story short I'd seen a car with no plates driving about, it was only an Astra or something, but it was looping around the block and being driven like a dick. I got into my car and as I waited at some traffic lights I saw in my mirror a man in black clothing ran up from that car, and put my window through, I accelerated away hard, and he ran back to his car but I kept my foot down until I was sure he was gone and called the police. They don't give a st about anyone, these guys did this in front of hordes of people walking to have a night out. I hate to admit it as through life I have seen some horrible stuff growing up but it genuinely did worry me and I never drive in Birmingham anymore. Police can't and won't do fk all. How could they. Since then I have seen more than one blatantly stolen car in Birmingham and some guy roaring down a main road through red lights with a balaclava on and no plates on the car.
