RE: McLaren 570S Spider: Driven
Discussion
Average McLaren options equate to about £27k. My 650S spider has £67k worth and looks better for it although I'm not expecting to ever get more than 20% of that back. You pays your money and takes your choice but generally speaking people in this market can afford to have the spec they WANT

The still look and sound like crap - regardless of all the carbon tat you think you need ....
The reason s/h 458s are going up in value (and are now passing s/h 488 prices) is because that is what people WANT - not an anodyne, turbocharged, glorified Lotus Elise.
It's nice to have the option for people who think Ferrari's are a little sad though don't you think? The reason s/h 458s are going up in value (and are now passing s/h 488 prices) is because that is what people WANT - not an anodyne, turbocharged, glorified Lotus Elise.

The lower reaches of the Mclaren sports to super to hyper to fandabidozie is all well and good but when this car, as one of the base models, hits £200k it does make the mind think,
I don't see the bargain car anymore, a lot like with any of current crop.
A while back the Nissan GTR got too overpriced for what it was worth, it used to be £50+k, then went up and up. Nismo versions were silly. Looking at the current one
RANGE FROM
£82,525
that seems very good value for money once more.
The exchange rate to super car v GTR got altered once again
Datsun don't make a GT-R spider so what an utterly pointless comparison.I don't see the bargain car anymore, a lot like with any of current crop.

570S is a very quick car but a 650S is ballistic in comparison and owning both I think I'm more than qualified to make the comparison.
Forced to choose only 1 it would be the 650S everytime.
the 570S is not much slower really in the real world.Forced to choose only 1 it would be the 650S everytime.
the 570S is already 488GTB fast.
650S is very dated, hard to get into and is dull as dishwater.
650S is really dead now imo, if you want the speed and the do it all drive the 720S is the car, if you want the fun the 570S is the car.
cannot see 2nd hand 650S sales going anywhere.

This is not a jibe at you Rambo - I've read through the thread so far and thought I'd look at what secondhand prices of 650S Spiders are currently on here. There is a pearl white one with a credited immensely costly specification / car was £260,000 - on at virtually £100,000 less and relatively low miles.
OUCH !
There's no way Carbon can be called Tat at that level of depreciation - liquid platinum coated in mercury more like ........£££££££
Please keep yours and really use it and enjoy it to its fullest.
Sorry much as I really respect McLaren as a company I just can't get behind these road cars. Most of them just don't look very nice to my eyes and that includes this 570s Spyder. From some angles it's OK but that front is absolutely goping and the whole thing just isn't very cohesive so it fails at the first hurdle for a supercar.
Add to that the fact that they don't sound that great either and I'm sorry but I'd be walking straight past this and straight into a Lambo showroom for a Hurucan Spyder. It just looks so much nicer and has that glorious N\A V10.

By chance this months Evo, Richard Porter has used his column to talk about cosmetic carbon fibre by Mclaren (and others, Mclaren are not alone).Quote: 'it's ugly, unpleasant and incredibly vulgar'.

I have a hypothesis that anyone who uses vulgar to disparage a person/place/animal/thing is an insufferable pompous tt.Quote: 'it's ugly, unpleasant and incredibly vulgar'.
It has proven true so often it is almost a theory.

Huracan spider you say, don't even bother giving it a second look if you are over 5 ft 10in. It's a car built for midgets with possibly the worst and most uncomfortable seats in a car today
It's a good thing I'm not a powerfully built director then, my 5ft 9in frame fit just fine when I got the chance to sit in one and I thought the seats where brilliant. Guvernator said:

I don’t know why Lamborghini cannot make a comfortable seat, it seems to be an issue with both their cars as born out in various reviews both in print and on YouTube

I am 6ft 2in and if I sit in a Huracan spider with the seat as low and as far back as possible you cannot close the roof because my head gets in the way, it’s daft. Plus because of the soft top taking up space, with the seat fully back it has to be in an almost upright position so making the situation worse. The R8 spider not surprisingly suffers from the same issue as fundamentally they are both the same car.

You have to remember it was primarily designed by small Italians I don’t know why Lamborghini cannot make a comfortable seat, it seems to be an issue with both their cars as born out in various reviews both in print and on YouTube
However I would be disappointed if I really wanted to buy a car but couldn't fit, perhaps there are some advantages to being a short-arse after all!
