Beautiful road, I've driven it in a far less fancy car in 2015 but it was totaly dead, august and we saw at most 20 cars on the whole route, the clouds had just covered the top so the tunnel had about 15m visibility at best but the main plateus on both sides were clear, we came from the north so you only see the road in it's fully glory from the top but it was absolutly amazing. Luckily as the missus is Romanian I get lots of excuses to drive these roads, trans alpina is the next time we're over for a few weeks smile

That was just an advert.

Great scenery but epically dull video.
Seconded

The article offered lots - and the hope must have been that the video would visually, and audibly, add to that.

It didn't
Congrats the video made by the manufacturer and nothing to do with the driver's impression/opinion is like an advert.... beer

I drove it in October 2011, was cloudy and snowy on the southern side:

Nice on the other side though:

Still, I think the road is over-hyped: Much of it's in such a bad condition that even in a mighty Polo it's a painful experience. Obviously I'd go back if anyone offered.

Much as I'd love to do it, the above re. the state of it combined with the fact it's a only 56 mile stretch a LOOOOONG way from the UK means I'm very unlikely to.

Why are they driving so slowly, are they running them in?
I don't think so. They arrive at the dealer with about 40 miles on the clock. You can interrogate the trip computer to see the highest speed reached in those miles, and I am told it is usually around 120mph.

1024x768 is as large as the CMS will currently allow - sorry! If you're clicking them from the story, ensure to take the '-L' tag out of the URL; that will take it from 600x450 to 1024x768. I appreciate that's not much but it's something.

HTH!

Heh I was in a Dacia logan! Was alright actually not the worst thing I've driven at all! As a piece of scenery it was perfect, as a road a little scary.

Also driven a nice moutain route in switzerland which wasn't as mental, from the #2 from Wassen, sadly in a citreon c2 as apparantly hertz didn't mention they won't let you drive a 4series to Italy to enjoy Stelvio

Totally agree about the pros and cons of the road, my Mrs is also a local so had the opportunity to drive the route. I found the road is much better in the foothills running up to the main pass than at the peak, much more flowing with less traffic and more places to safely overtake.

We'll probably settle in the region at some point which has got me thinking as to a future suitable fun car to enjoy the area. Given the various large holes in the surfaces I expect anything low and delicate won't work, some of the potholes would eat a Caterham whole!

I'm suspecting something more rally baiased like a MK2 escort with some proper suspension or dropping an LS in to a duster might be a better bet smile
