A VW Golf R, with a 2-litre forged engine, uprated clutch and exhaust, delivering ~780bhp, has this week done 0-60 in 2.6secs and the quarter-mile in 9.5secs.

Total cost of roughly £50k (£30k for car + £20k for mods).

Faster than a ~£1m LaFerrari, P1, 918, Veyron and Aventador...

I would still rather have a LaFerrari, P1, 918, Veyron or Aventador

That's a lot of mods to be undone before it gets returned at the end of the lease

How many runs do we think it would do before needing four figures spending?

A £7k ZZR1400 will do high 9s all day and then take you to the south of France.

Good fun and love cars like this but it is not going to last that long and I would expect not much use for normal use.

I would rather have the Golf and pocket £950,000+ change.

forged engine,
Think how quick it might have been with a genuine one paperbag

That would be often quite inconvenient.

Crazy tuned TSI/TFSIs drive better than you think. The factory management and calibration remains, so also retains factory traffic manners. All that changes is the lag and boost. Launching flatters big turbos and DSG, but I bet smaller turbo'd Golfs would paste it on B roads.

The Haldex stuff won't like it for long. Rear diffs and gearboxes have blown running far less power than that, but they only need 1 run to convince the gullible it's a tried, tested and daily reliable package.

That is impressive, but then if you massively uprate the engine and drivetrain in any 4wd car it's going to be bloody quick off the line. For a bit.

"Yes officer, it was the other Golf"

sounds a bit better than

You can't say that on here. This is a car forum where the leased 2.0 VAG reigns supreme smile

I bet the seats, aircon and stereo are all brilliant on the bike. And I bet it's really handy when you need to nip to Ikea...
