I don't really understand the jumping ship to F-E. Teams have a budget of around £15 million a year
There you go.

£15m a year is a damn sight cheaper than F1 budgets.

If horse racing is still a billion pound UK industry then I'm sure "petrol car racing" has a long future.

It may lose the support of mainstream manufacturers but there will always be the support from specialist racing companies, Cosworth, Ilmor and the like.

Manufactures leaving F1 for Formula E could improve F1 as the rules could be changed to allow cheaper, noisier engines as there would be no need to try to sell the "green research" angle to car industry boardrooms.

Be interesting to see in the next few years to see where flagship drivers move to... f1 or FE.

FE currently seems to be a load of "has-beens" or ones that just aren't quite good enough.

True but F1 is the highest form and pinnacle of automotive engineering/motorsport with a lot of bespoke engineering.

By all means go into FE but I cannot see much innovation in FE going into road cars.
