The one criticism you can never direct at Le Mans is one of cost. The general entry ticket is still an absolute bargain in comparison to F1.20 years ago it still managed to attract just as many people. The racing was just as good as was the entertainment. It just didn't cost anywhere near as much as you weren't having to line the pockets of hundreds of leaches.

These manufacturers sponsor the event so if that goes ticket prices will go up or a reduced event.
Not necessarily. It just means there is less money to be syphoned off and by fewer people. Le Mans is an utterly bloated corporate event, loaded with debt and corporate excess. Like so many events these days which have been high jacked by corporates for their own benefit. 20 years ago it still managed to attract just as many people. The racing was just as good as was the entertainment. It just didn't cost anywhere near as much as you weren't having to line the pockets of hundreds of leaches.
Formula E as the absolute pinnacle of corporate fkwittery and how it sucks all sports dry of any kind of sportiness.

Sorry to burst your bubble and smash your rose tints, but high end motorsport was as much of a corporate wkfest 20 years ago as it is today, except 20 years ago we had cigarette sponsors. And don't directly compare the worth of money 20 years ago to the worth of money today without factoring in everything else.
Corporate as in the debt structures and hefty fees used to raise bonds to build fancy structures and events that always leads to massive rental increases and debt financing costs which is always paid for by the consumer. All these events are much more expensive than they used to be. Ticket prices are not a key indicator as they are used to get people onto the site where they are then upsold numerous very heavily loaded products etc. Just look at how much it now costs to run a 'stall' at the big events now. Only global finance, booze or car vendors and other major corporates can usually stump up the cost. There is no character or charm to these events any more as it's all about getting consumers on site and extracting as much as possible from them to finance all the debt and executive costs.
Absolutely agree that 20 years is wrong. I easily forget that I'm older than I think and that we are in 2017 but the late 90s was when it all began to change from the traditional owners and their business models to being taken over by the world of high finance and all the tripe that accompanies it.
Go to a Formula E event and you can't walk 5 feet without someone trying to sell you a pension, a house loan, a telephone contract or some diesel crap box. It's dismal. And the bulk of your fellow spectators are just invitees on a corporate jolly courtesy of a car or debt vendor and with little interest in the actual sport.
Each year it seems to get harder and harder to find sporting events around Europe that are not ghastly corporate promotion events desperately trying to screw every last coin out of you to help finance their ludicrous debt obligations and 30 pieces of sponsorship silver.
Bit of a wild rant but the landscape has changed so drastically and it's not absolutely for the better.

There has to be a prototype class which pushes the boundaries.
But EV is madness
100% reliability
Pit stop would be battery swap
Water cooled motors to prevent overheating.
Electrical fire
What about the dangers of accidents. With battery vehicles and leaking acid on the track /onto competitors.
100% reliability? Racing is always about pushing the limit - there will be engine failures, controller failures, battery failures, etc.But EV is madness

What have you got against water cooling? How does your car's engine stay cool?
I agree the battery range needs to improve.
And in whose head is spilled battery acid (which most modern batteries don't have) is a bigger issue than spilt fuel or oil?

It has 1 moving part which is an exceptionally simple design. What have you got against water cooling? How does your car's engine stay cool?

It gives no noise to speak of =Bad

IMO, motorsports has been on it's ass for at least 10 years now.
Since "efficiency" and "performance" became watch words in fact.
Now, motorsport is FUN to do, but to watch, er no, not really, especially any category that uses aerodynamic assistance.
I've found WRC to be fantastic this year. The cars are as fast as they've ever been (perhaps excluding grp B), the drivers are as committed as ever and the cars are generally sliding everywhere and fascinating to watch.Since "efficiency" and "performance" became watch words in fact.

Just watch the first stage of rally Poland from this year, available on Ch5 catch-up. It was soaking wet, muddy and they're doing a fast, narrow section totally on the edge of control. It's bloody brilliant.

Now picture that with EV rally cars. Just watch the first stage of rally Poland from this year, available on Ch5 catch-up. It was soaking wet, muddy and they're doing a fast, narrow section totally on the edge of control. It's bloody brilliant.

The picture is the same minus the dumb noise.I've been to a couple a rallies in South Wales the noise standing in the forest was superb the noise bouncing off the surround & you'd hear them coming half a minute before arriving if not further.
EV would be crap.
