Is this car meant for foreign markets that penalise cars over 2000cc.
It surely must be. I can't begin to understand the mentality of a UK customer who might walk into a Jaguar dealership burning for an F-Type and opt to secure a 4cyl for £2k odd less than a wholly better V6 (i.e. a decent amount of cylinders for a premium sports car at circa £50k) - even with a couple of hundred pounds extra in tax to fork out.

Still I expect we'll see numerous single-exhaust Fs on the roads in months to come.
Not everyone is a petrol head, especially within Jaguar's greying target market. For most, the reduced Tax/Insurance/Fuel etc would be the attraction.

Don't forget, there is only £3,000 between the 4-pot and V8 Mustangs, and Ford UK sells more 4-pots than V8s.

For 19k less ill get a brand new VW Golf R. Quicker more eco 4wd and more practical. This is just too expensive 49k for 300bhp 4 pot never.

For 12k less than a Golf R, I'd have a Fireblade SP. Quicker, more eco and won't look like I have carpet samples or photocopier brochures in the boot.

Am I doing this right?

No they don't, it's been about a 70% V8 take rate on the Mustang.

This is defiently a move for the foreign markets. In Asia you can buy a Jaguar XJ with a 2.0 petrol engine.

A lovely-looking thing, but too slow for its pricepoint.

It either needs 100bhp more for ~£50k, or £10-15k chopping off the current price.
5.7 seconds to 60 is slow?

I'd argue that as long as something sounded as good as it looked and handled well then it is good in my book. And 0-60 in less than 6 seconds is still rapid imo.

Hmmmm, really? Same price and less interior 'luxury', wider (not ideal in the UK)...yes, the 4C may be a more "aren't I a driving God" sharp and focused, but "better off in every way"? Not really.

Whilst the 4C is more 'Lotus', the 2.0F is more 'base 718' in terms of the buyers it is trying to attract.

While it's obviously a less attractive choice, I'm not a cylinder Nazi, so the idea of the model makes some sense to me.

But at £50k I just don't get it. In the UK.

What if you don't want a stripped out sports car, and want your coupe with a boot?

Maintains the entry level model at £50k and allows price creep further up. I spent 3 years with a V6S convertible but never really gelled with it, I own three Porsches as well and unfortunately for Jaguar they always offer something more special. I tried to love my Jag but I cannot ever see the appeal of a 4 pot. The car will sell to those who enjoy the looks but are not interested in the dynamics - nothing wrong with that but not for me.

Ford quoted 60% 4-pots on Sky News when the story about the 2040 ICE rule came out?

I wonder how much bouncing v6 customers on 3yr PCP deals into a shiney new (but cheaper) car with a small deposit comes into it?
Must be plenty that are more interested in a 67 plate on the drive than v6/8 power they never use anyway, plus how many will either have enough equity to roll their deal into a new v6 or be able and willing to stump up the final payment on their old car or deposit for a new one?

Shrinkflation!

Isn't that one of the biggest oxymoron's that can be stated on a site such a PH? The new Porsche 718 springs to mind here. I remember that not being exactly well-received.

I actually think he's got a point. If you want an economical but also powerful 4-pot, i wouldn't be looking at a sports car as such. It'd be more in the body of a hatchback.

A 2 seater sports coupe with a cheap to run 4cyl is pointless is you ask me. It's describing almost everything that i don't want out of that experience, personally.

The actually review, yeah. I was more on about the fact that many just don't seem to want to know anymore, regardless how good it may be to drive, because of it now being a 4-pot and no longer a 6-cylinder.

If there are people out there who would turn down an otherwise brilliant car because of the noise it made then, I'm not really sure it's Porsche's loss.
