So the current Vantage has one of the best steering systems of any sports car, and now Daimler will treat us to a feel-less benz electric unit. No thanks. If Mclaren can do it so should Aston. Silly thinking.
Has anyone said they’ll adopt Mercedes steering?

I agree that the Vantage is the best steering car i’ve driven. I like it better than Porsches when they were good.

I've been told by a few independent sources, unprompted, that there wont ever be a V12 new vantage - any corroboration for this?
Well, they would say that, wouldn’t they?

Yep. There are absolutely no plans for a V12 model of the new Vantage.

Right up until there are.

Lets hope the interior is a lot better than the previous generation of models...
?

I thought the interior was always considered to be one of the best in its class?
I felt the interior, well the switchgear was awful. After test driving a vantage back in 2010 thinking of trading my 997S.

Hopefully the Mercedes influence will up the switchgear.

It's a beautiful car mind you!
Just shows how completely differently people see things. IMO, the Aston interior is stunning. It's so much more special, aesthetically and regarding materials quality, than a 997's that there is really no comparison. Most of the Aston's switchgear is beautiful, metal and bespoke, whereas the 997's is nice plastic -- which is still plastic. I bought my 2009 V8V new, and it's been completely reliable, which I cannot say for the last two German cars we've owned (from Mercedes and Audi). And the dash doesn't rattle.

Sadly, for me, the new car's off-the-shelf AMG engine is an utter travesty. An Aston deserves an Aston engine, and using someone else's off-the-shelf engine is an absolute deal-breaker for me.

Ouch. Doesn't seem that long ago since a V8 Vantage was £80k....<gets old>
That was exactly my point, mate - I am getting old! You forget how many years have passed until you are faced with an inflation-adjusted price for something.

(I certainly wasn't saying a Vantage should be £80k - merely a comment on the fact that those days seem only yesterday)

The current V8 in the V8 Vantage is a modified AJ-V8 Jag engine, the old V12 in the DB7 and DB9 was two V6 Ford engines joined at the hip, the DB7 was a Jag !

Aston Martin have relied on off the shelf parts and other manufacturers' engines and facilities as building blocks for their cars for years - e.g.

"The DB7, known internally as the NPX project, was made mostly with resources from Jaguar and had the financial backing of the Ford Motor Company, owner of Aston Martin from 1988 to 2007. The DB7's platform is an evolution of the Jaguar XJS's, though with many changes. The styling started life as the still-born Jaguar F type (XJ41 – coupe / XJ42 – convertible) designed by Keith Helfet. Ford cancelled this car and the general design was grafted onto an XJS platform. The styling received modest changes by Ian Callum so that it looked like an Aston Martin."

The slats behind the wheel arches look like the wheel smashed dog turd to the side of the car. Who designed it should be molested with a frozen sausage.

So it looks like the recent leaked patent images for the new Vantage were real as this is very close to a recent render I produced using those sketches

The current Vantage is such a beautiful, balanced design that it was always going to be a huge challenge to replace it. This render looks to be a very good attempt to update the current design with some cues from the DB11 but still retaining the Vantage's perfect proportions.

Will be very interesting to see it in the flesh.

I agree and I actually feel sorry for AM and the designer responsible. How on earth do you follow that act? I'd be crying at being given that as my task.

The tech definitely needs to be brought up to match competition, but the shape...seriously hard act to follow.

I cannot say I like the DB11 at all. I think it is most awkward. Be interesting to see how the new Vantage looks.

It looks as though it has the very pronounced cut in along the bottom of the sides and ahead of the rear wheel arch that, to my eyes, makes the stance of the DB11 look all wrong.

Do we think the launch of the new Vantage will affect prices of the old model?
Of course it will, but not as much as you'd think. The old one is still a good looking car. It will be a classic.
The vast majority of V8 Vantages will not be affected by the release of this new car as most were sold between 2005-2009 and are sub 50k, even the later model 55k-75k 2013-2016 cars aren't going to be impacted by the arrival of a 110k+ new version as they totally different markets as well.

If Andy Palmer is true to form and offers a manual 'box this will stir things up properly and I think he'll have a real sales hit on his hands.

Here's hoping...

After reading the comments I thought I'd see people moaning about it being turbocharged but nobody has mentioned it! People only moaning about it being an AMG engine, just goes to show how there will always be something to moan about, if it was an Aston engine, people would have moaned about it being turbo charged. Always something!

i think the engine is pretty well regarded already compared to its turbo peers from other manufs. my concern is the sound being too AMG-like rather than Aston-ish. The short clip of it testing at the ring sounded very much like a new body on a C63 S.

Another day and yet another Aston Martin. Trouble is , they made a great looking car in the DB 4 , milked that till it was dry, created the marmite DBS, ran with that for decades , stalled with the Poundshop Virage and struck gold with the retro inspired DB7, which has been the inspiration ever since . Sorry , but I can't tell a DB9 from its predecessor or successor - so why can I tell one 911 derivation from another ? Weird ..
