Your local cars for sale Facebook group and gumtree.

Remember you might not like the sort of people selling the car but it's just there car you want , purely business.
hehe

Trying to decipher their messages is half the fun.
Be ready to pounce too.

Don't engage in class war , just buy car and leave strictly business.

Count yourself lucky to have a radio! My Saab 9-3s amp has just died, meaning no radio, indicator tick or system noises.

I took it apart and a capacitor has burst, I tried the bypass fix but my ham hands broke one of the fibre optic cables in the process. Grr.

I spent a lot of last night frantically emailing ebay sellers of breaking listings. Typically it breaks just before a weekend.

So my current radio set up is a bluetooth shower speaker stuck to the dashboard paired to my phone. It's surprisingly good hehe

For someone fairly new to this (not had a car in the 'bangernomics' price range since my first car), what's the best way to seek out a bargain?

I've had a brief look at AutoTrader and eBay, and even for something quite rotten, you're looking at £1000. Where are all the £200 bargains?!
Maybe you're out of date with prices. £200 buys you an MoT failure, or something with the gearbox "needing slight attention".

£1000 for something that goes (with a long MoT) isn't too bad, if you choose wisely. But yes there is a lot of inflated junk around. Be prepared for some searching, it's fun!

Not necessarily. £200 is what I paid for my winter hack in September. Its MOT ran out today. I don't know if it will fail and I'm not fussed to find out. No mechanical issues, though. Pulse, if you're interested, PM me.

Nope. Done it many times over and have wasted so much money.

When cars get beyond circa 10 years old they need preventative maintenance as well as no expense spared. It's either an example that's had that or PCP on a new car for me - Nothing in the middle.

I got my puma last oct/Nov for £500 off eBay.

Mot runs out October, 69k and rust seems to of been repaired, so there is stuff out there .

Bought my Puma for £800 in July; saw it advertised on owners' forum. You got a good deal - mine had done 110k smile

Even eBay throws up some bargains , look for the honest adverts with proper spelling and aviod all the ones where the interior shots show a crappy load of rubbish and an innit bruv description, I aviod any with number plates obscured as I do a mot history check . I picked up a very clean Corsa C 1.2 sxi with almost a years ticket on it for £310 and ran it for 9 months until my health dictated a break from driving , put a fresh ticket on it and it was snapped up for £575 on gumtree by the first person that viewed it .

Previously ran a 500 quid 2002 Citroën xsara 1.6 petrol. Did 32k on it in two years, used and abused. Outside of oil changes it was only a pair of tyres and a new ignition coil.

Sold it on with 9 months MOT as a friend had offered me his car for free, 1998 Audi A4 1.9 tdi. He purchased in 2010 for 800 quid. In the next few days it will cross the 320,000 mile barrier! As far as we can tell, original clutch. Happy to sit at 80+ on the motorway and can get 50+ mpg. At idle it does sound a bit like a tractor. Only needed a new CV joint for the MOT last August and a few weeks ago a replacement suspension arm after this happened (a PITA to fit but not expensive once I got it recovered).

The focus which I referred to earlier has finally bitten the dust. This is due to a rattling cat, rotten arches and drivers front wing and an issue where it overheats in traffic. Ive bit the bullet after 6 years of shed ownership and bought a 2017 skoda citigo. Very sad to see the focus meet its death though as its the best car ive ever owned after paying £600 for it in 2016.

Some tt has driven into my car. rear bumper cracked and boot won't open. o.k hopefully fix it for 100 quid but drove off no note. i work 7 days a week 60 hours so not sure when it happened.

Anyone know how to open a megane 2 boot?
Have you opened it yet? There's a little lever inside the lock you move up (I think it's up - it might be down)

hehe

My 9-3's heater fan has packed in. I'm going to get a USB fan and plug that into an adapter that goes into the cigarette lighter.

£550 for my 5 door pretty much rust free ST170 which had 4 months MOT when bought, no service history which if it wasn’t sentimental would be the deal breaker, other than a clutch that wants replacing next year, it’s perfectly fine, no issues yet. I’d class it a pretty good banger, not that I see it or treat it like one

Funny how all the cars ever sold by dealers have a full service history though isn't it!

Only care I’ve ever bought from a dealer was a 1.6 Focus advertised as FSH, it had a patchy service history at best, the vinegar washer fluid and moss growing on the roof suggested it was a bad buy, 1 1/2 years later and I’ve still got it after selling it to my parents for my mum to use. Always liked buying MK1 Focuses, one of the last truly easy cars to work on, easy to sell too, especially the 1.6
