Do PHers still practice bangernomics?

Only care I’ve ever bought from a dealer was a 1.6 Focus advertised as FSH, it had a patchy service history at best, the vinegar washer fluid and moss growing on the roof suggested it was a bad buy, 1 1/2 years later and I’ve still got it after selling it to my parents for my mum to use. Always liked buying MK1 Focuses, one of the last truly easy cars to work on, easy to sell too, especially the 1.6
I place absolutely no trust in service histories. So easy to add more stamps, or just make a new book up.
In addition I place very little trust in odometer readers too!

Since my E46 has started throwing a few issues up i decided to buy a cheap banger to get me around whilst it is off the road. Managed to get a 53 plate Ford Focus 5dr for £395. It has 4 months MOT, a full Ford dealer service history (up to date), usual toys with only 60k miles. I have verified the mileage with both the service history and mot history. Have worked out that within a year it pays itself off just on fuel savings over the E46 never mind the tax etc.
Bought a wafty motorway cruiser in Rover 45 V6 flavour in May for £250.
MoT fail last week - needs new front brake calipers, new backbox, track rod end and a couple of other bits. Eminently repairable but I have no off-road storage to take my time fixing it up. Offered it up for £100 to Rover fans on Facebook due to its rarity. No takers.
Just been quoted £171 by Motorwise, they'll collect later this week.
Bargain - £79 for 5 months waftage, true Bangernomics.
And onto another crock, this time a 1992 Rover 214SLi for £300 with ticket till June....

A chap on Youtube (hub nut I think) has a 45 V6. Loves it.
I'm after something cheap this week so will consider the old Rovers.
